i read this a long time ago in an english class for college. i want to say they're visiting relatives for thanksgiving? and basically they go outside and play with their cousins in this treehouse, but they're playing very recklessly, so a kid trips and dies. but none of the adults will pay attention to them or anything. so they just bury the kid and go home. i can't remember any of their names or anything else though. i think its a brother and sister who're the main characters.

At least where I go, the average course is a 3-hour credit course, and in order to complete a degree from start to finish in four years, you need to complete at least 15 hours per semester or you’ll fall behind. This doesn’t account for existing credits, however.

Granted, Rory presumably took (and passed) AP tests in her high school, so she most likely went into Yale with SOME credits. Surely enough to skip an entire sem
