I'm seeing far too many perfectly reasonable post comments being down-voted for no good reason.

Readers of this fine subreddit, if you see a comment being down-voted for no good reason, be a decent person an return the upvote.

Don't let the cowardly bully down-voter(s) win.

And moderators, if the ordinary readers can't down-vote, then nobody should be allowed to down-vote...

The video below is from a Ukrainian guy who is now a US citizen, and has a rather large YouTube channel about growing up and living in the old USSR.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAgyFFZcKT8

In 1986 he was about 15 years old and living in Kiev, Ukraine when the Chernobyl nuclear reactor exploded. The video is about his experiences during that event.

He goes into how the Russians tried to jam foreign broadcasts, and how the Russian citizens got around it.

His channel is called 'USHANKA SHOW' (Ushanka being the name of the traditional Russian winter fur hat with fur ear flaps), and probably has well over 100 videos on it, if not more, on his channel.

It's well worth checking out, I'v

Something interesting just happened in Russia, UVB-76, said to be their automatic nuclear retaliation station, was heard playing Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake'.

https://x.com/visegrad24/status/2006037333066338626

Historically, Moscow plays 'Swan Lake' only when a major political event happens, like the death of a current Soviet Premier. The last time it was heard was in 1991, after a coup attempt.

Now we find out it wasn't the Russians playing 'Swan Lake', it seems Ukraine hacked into a supposedly secure military computer network. And, it was a premonition of a major Moscow attack targeting their electric grid, plunging a sizeable chunk of Moscow into darkness.

Nice job mocking Russia, Ukrain

Back around 2015 (?) Lockheed's 'Skunkworks' announced an attempt at a fusion reactor. Aside from a tiny dribble of very occasional news, it's been the metaphorical crickets out of them.

One of their claims at the time involved a confinement magnetic field that pushed back as hard as it was pushed against by the plasma.

Was theirs a form of a field-reversed confinement reactor?

They did it again, offering substantial improvements the tiny SSB radio.

Just some of the upgrades -

Proper injection-molded or CNC machined aluminum case, if you want to pay..

The headphone lead now doubles as the FM antenna, a massive improvement, now just drop it in your pocket and go about your day.

Visual interface improved, adding monchrome black and multi color visual presentation.

Rudimentary waterfall available with a firmware update.

Simple hardware jumper to activate and decode on-chip RTTY and CW.

Over-volt diode protect circuit on the antenna jack.

Headphone amp audio somewhat nicer.

That's just the highlights...

Dipping my to into Linux Ubuntu from Windows 10.

Windows Firefox saves my bookmarks to a JSON file, Ubuntu wants the bookmarks file as HTML to restore them.

What's the workaround, is there a converter utility or something?

I'm utterly baffled as to why the Firefox team is making the conversion from one platform to another this frustrating...

I bought every version they sold with my latest AMNVOLT Mini, including the 2 VHF-UHF versions, those comments are below my scathing review on the wideband and 2 other 'tunable' mediumwave and shortwave versions below.

I bought these antennas with high hopes, I'm a huge fan of 'mag loops' in general, with their sharp 'peaks' and delightful deep, deep nulls allowing precise determination of transmitter locations a snap, and excellent noise reduction qualities.

All comparisons will be made with the stock 72 cm 'whip' antenna that came standard with my version of the AMNVOLT radio.

Radios used are the AMNVOLT v3 Mini-SSB with the built-in MOSFET preamp, and the ICOM IC-705 wideband ra

Happiness is a brand-new longwire antenna freshly hung, over twice as high, and substantially longer than the old one.

New antennas just seem to work better... :)

it looks like Paul, OM0ET, has some pull in the mini-SSB radio manufacturing community, as there's now a version 2.0 with all mods (including his personal FET pre-amp mod) complete now available for sale :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAa_I-GqroY

Mods include - Upgraded firmware installed, an FET pre-amp on the main board, and a headphone amplifier built-in, and bigger tuning knob.

It's finally what it should have been all along. Paul also speculates why Bluetooth was not implemented, he thinks battery life would have been drastically shortened.

He also tests the whip antenna against the 'BB' un-tuned loop antenna his radio came with and in every instance, longwave through VHF broad

I'm a fan of the 'Asianometry' YouTube channel, the guy running it, Jon, a Taiwanese guy, does some solid work explaining in plain language how high-technology works. What hooked me on his channel was his explanation of how ASML's extreme-ultraviolet light engine worked, used to make the most advanced chips made today. Their machine, the size of a standard shipping container sells for 200 million USD, each. TL;DR, 50,000 times each second, a blob of molten tin metal is shot across a gap where it gets nailed by a laser several times, flattening, it, then annihilating it, creating the ultra-short wavelength UV light. Well-worth the watch.

While Googling around trying to find a TRC-467 manual to help a recent commenter asking a question, a link popped up about an old 1977 issue of 'Popular Electronics' magazine in the PDF format that listed that exact radio. Here's the link :

https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Archive-CB-Radio/Miscellaneous/Popular-Electronics-Citizens-Band-Handbook-1977.pdf

Yep, it showed the TRC-467 all right, including its price back then of $119.95. Sounds about right to my recollection. Then, out of curiosity, I plugged in the year 1977 and $119.95 into this inflation calculator and hit calculate :

https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

To my utter shock, $119.95 in 1977 equals $628.79 in today's m
