Heads up, Big Cottonwood Canyon will be closed for the next little bit. Signage and Twitter will be updated shortly.

Pepper your angus for some traffic if you're trying to get up there or driving in the area of the mouth.

Latest update: BCC has been opened back up, for now, but it's very slow going

Another update, BCC will be closing again to both directions due to high avalanche danger

***Most recent update. Looks like uphill traffic only is being allowed up BCC. LCC may not reopen due to avalanche conditions. ***

***Update...LCC has also just been closed

It's getting to be that time of year when people leave their car running to warm up. I would strongly advise against this as it only takes seconds to get inside your vehicle and take off.

I can't tell you how many people I've spoken to over the years and heard the very same, "I just went back into my house for a second to grab something".

Have a great and safe winter!

Edit....this is referring to your vehicle being stolen while left warming up.

If you need to go any direction through this area, avoid it at all costs and find an alternate route. It'll be closed off for the next few hours at least.

Truck hit and sheared off a power pole. Rocky Mountain Power is dealing with outages all over the valley and it'll be a while for them to respond.

Big Cottonwood is currently closed and the traffic is backing up. There's a semi that slid off and is blocking the road, I don't believe there's an ETA on when the canyon will be back open. Sounds like it's a bit of a mess up there but they're working on it.

If you're heading up to enjoy some of that delicious snow, prepare for a wait or head over to Alta or Snowbird instead.

EDIT....the canyon is now open

As of 20 or so minutes ago, both big and little are temporarily closed due to the weather, several accidents and slide offs. Crazy traffic backed up trying to get up the canyons. I'd avoid heading up for the next little while if you were planning on it.

EDIT...both canyons open but still restricted to 4x4 or chains

I should have made this a long time ago but just thought of it. Beware of several scams going around for the past year or so.

IRS scam: You're contacted by a person claiming to be an IRS or Treasury Agent, you're in arrears and need to pay up or go to jail. Ignore and go to https://www.treasury.gov/services/report-fwa/Pages/Report-Email-Scams.aspx to report the scam. Your local police department will not be doing anything with this scam.

Police scam: You're contacted by a person who claims to be with a local agency. They might even give you the name of a legitimate officer with that department. You have warrants out for your arrest or you missed jury duty and you need to pay off the

The snow is about to fall and it's the time of year that people like to start their car to warm up and head back into the house.

Please don't do this, I can't tell you have many people have told me, "I only ran back into the house to grab something" or "it was only warming up for a couple of minutes".

There are bad folks out there who love to check neighborhoods early in the morning for vehicles left warming up and it only takes them seconds to get in and take off.

Kevin and Keith decided to finally schedule a date in my city so I picked up some tickets. Anyone seen their stand up yet?
