Someone near me is selling a bunch of old barrel staves for $1 each. The description just says they're white oak barrel staves. It looks like some have charring on one side, so I assume they came from bourbon barrels.

Are these good for woodworking projects, or is this more like a "pallets are free wood" situation?

Don't act like we don't all do it!

The best flashlight is the one you have on you, and a headlamp with band simply doesn't fit in your pocket very well. sometimes you just gotta hold it with your mouth for a minute to get the job done.

The most comfortable for me has definitely been the classic aluminum Wurkkos TS10. It's pretty short, with a balanced weight, so it doesn't torque down too hard when it's hanging out of my mouth, which can cause pain. It also has a pretty smooth tailcap, so it there's no harsh knurling to dig into my lips like with the D3AA. It's a tail switch, so I could probably turn it on an off with my tongue, if I really tried. I love my brass and copper versions, but t

I am looking for a recommendation for a cafe in Detroit or Metro Detroit to try Qahwah/Qahwa/Arabic-style coffee.

I am particularly interested in the very lightly-roasted version, using beans that look almost like green coffee beans. I know there are a ton on Yemeni coffee houses in the area, but I am mostly interested in places that focus on the coffee and process itself.

I've been to a few places that basically serve larger lattes with cardamom, etc., and those were tasty, but I'm looking for "tiny cups of different coffee," if that makes sense.

Please let me know your favorite. I'm excited to hear your recommendations!

I had to take my feeders down last week after identifying House Finch Eye Disease in a few finches. I am disinfecting my feeders and will keep them down for at least two weeks. The finches fed off my thistle and safflower feeders.

In the meantime, is it safe to resume feeding whole, in-shell peanuts on a platform (that has been cleaned) and/or a suet feeder that requires birds to hang upside down to access it (like for woodpeckers and nuthatches)?

My understanding is that the finches can't eat the whole peanuts, and can't hang upside down to access the suet. Would it be safe to resume with the peanuts and suet in the meantime?

It has been five days, and the birds have seemingly entirely d
