"I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it." -Pablo Picasso
Last night, my character passed an Ob31 Resource test to create a 15D fund. With his effective Resources of 6, he can now muster 21D for any test, and that's before Help, Cash, or Artha. It's the first time we've witnessed anything like this in any BWHQ campaign. So how'd we get there? It's the result of our years-long campaign. BW REALLY shines with such extended stories!
Our mission was to create and fund an army to fight in a war.
Tests involved:
-Ob6 Persuasion test to convince his Temple priests to declare a holy war against the enemy.
-Ob11 Faith test to perform a Major Miracle, inspiring the populace of the city.
-Ob4 to set up tithe collection points throughout the city
-Ob6 Or
There are years of history behind the title there, but let me sum it up.
-In our setting, the gods are asleep.
-Any Prayers are automatically Ob10, no matter how small or grand.
-We instituted a Tax test of Ob 10 anytime a Prayer is made.
-My character is a zealot of one of them with a B8 Faith. EVERY action he takes is in the name of his chosen god.
In our last session, in an attempt to make mortal an oni/demon/evil spirit so his Emperor can slay it and be the hero, my character went for the Prayer. He summoned about 16 dice and had the Aura of Determination. He passed and the plan went off perfectly!
Then he rolled his Forte of B6 to resist the Ob10 Tax. I think I got one success. So
Range & Cover is a fun mechanic for playing out battles that feature lots of missile fire and taking ground. But its history goes back to a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...*
Luke, a buddy, and I were returning to NYC from a visit to our friend in Washington, D.C. I was driving my father's borrowed truck that had a broken fuel gauge. My father had warned me about it, but being a dumb, I forgot.
I think we were doing 80 mph on I-95 in Delaware when the vehicle began to sputter and lose speed. I got over to the shoulder just as the car lost all momentum. Our buddy volunteered to go find some gas, leaving Luke and I to wait. (This was before cell phones!)
I'm not exactly
Have you heard of "Blartha?" It's short for Black Artha.
It's a joke mechanic that came into being because we were such bad players. Luke gnashed his teeth when we got into dumb arguments, incorrectly insisted our interpretation of the nascent rules was correct, or made really, really tasteless jokes or comments. Blartha is entirely punitive.
It works like so. When someone offended the GM so greatly that the room grew dark, that player earned a point of Blartha. Blartha must be spent on the very next test. Blartha worked like a reverse Fate die expenditure. Every die with a result of 1 would explode and each further failure resulted in a removed success.
Again, it was very much a threa
