Someone was asking about putting switches into a long-term build, and they wanted them to be reliable.

Cherry were preferred, but I'm pretty sure that there are custom switches as reliable as Cherry is supposed to be. So I gave some options.

But I was wondering - what in your experiences have been demonstrated to be reliable MX switches?

Someone I know is about to embark upon a custom build, using hand-lubed G Pro 3.0 Browns.

Given that the new Jupiter Browns are becoming available, he was wondering about how they might compare to G Pro 3.0. Before buying samples, is it possible to know the differences?

The old "Phantom Browns" were factory lubed Browns, so is this the case with the Jupiter Browns? Are they 'nicer' G Pro 3.0?

I'm asking for someone new to the hobby, as I'm not modding any right now.

ThiccThocc DL 65 G springs that come with Shogoki are overpowered.

This person would like their Shogoki and Taro Ball switches to be a more reasonable weight.

I have read about 60 G 16mm springs working with these types of switches. And some measurements even suggested that Durock 63.5 G stock springs actually bottom-out around 55 G [15mm?]

So do you think you could get away with maybe 55 G 15mm? Or would you need 57 - 58 G 15mm or longer springs?

Okay, I might have precipitated this one by allowing my SSD to get full before cloning it to a larger one.

Right now, Windows 10 keeps wanting to install, and installing, the same updates over and over.

They are: The 2023-11 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework and

2023-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 2H22 for x64 based systems.

I let the whole install and reset process go through, but it just wants to do it again after.

I think some config files may have been damaged right before this. My SSD was filling up, and just before I was to replace it, Windows 10 automatically downloaded updates. So the SSD became full, to the point where it could not even install the upd

There is a post by someone who is a heavy typist and keeps accidentally actuating switches.

That person is looking for a switch that is very resistant at the top, so that accidental keypresses are unlikely.

People have recommended Zealio V2, U4T, Gateron Kangaroo Ink, Holy Bobas, Haimu WS Heavy Tactile, and Harimau.

Of those, it seems Zealio V2, U4T, and WS Heavy Tactile are more likely available in EU.

Is there an aftermarket spring weight that would enhance tactility / resistance at the top?

Also, is there some kind of frankenswitch that is wildly difficult to accidentally press?

A relative wants to save an image that is currently used as their iPad's wallpaper.

I don't think the original image is stored locally.

Is it possible to save the wallpaper image somehow, so that it is not lost upon transition to a new wallpaper image?

On a rewatch of Episode 1, there's something that's still bothering me.

I am a little under the weather, so maybe there is something I missed here. But when Riley sees the figure moving outside on the waterfront during the storm, he thinks it may be M. Pruitt.

The figure appears to be wearing M. Pruitt's hat and clothing. Riley can't catch him, so we don't know.

So was it Pruitt? Or was it the 'vampire?' This may seem like a stupid question, but I thought there was a basis to explain or understand most other things in the series. What I don't understand, is why was Pruitt or the vampire running around in the Monsignor's clothes during the storm?

If it was Pruitt, I guess maybe he w

(Windows 10)

My desktop computer has 16 GB of installed RAM, and has had this for years.

However, it recently has been saying that I have 16 GB 'installed,' but only 8 GB 'usable.'

Here is what Windows (10) Settings says:

Device name [My Device]

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz

Installed RAM 16.0 GB (8.00 GB usable)

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I don't know why it is making this mistake now. It should read all 16 GB as usable, as before. My tower received a new PSU a couple of weeks ago, maybe something got dislodged when it was reassembled. But I thought diagnostics had sho

I'm looking for an educational software that used to exist particularly in Canada on old DOS computers on IBM/PCs [the actual thing] in school "computer rooms."

It was meant to teach rudimentary keyboarding and other computer interactions, probably for 6-8 year olds.

One of the first things you do in this software is type in your name, which soon 'animates.' I mean, it takes your name and puts it into colourful letters and moves it all around the screen with PC speaker noises and such.

Does this ring a bell to anyone?

I was handed a video taken of a conference using some kind of ancient recorder.

The video is in .SSF format.

People want to watch the video, but won't be able to in that format. So I'll need to convert it.

I noticed that there is a post here from 6 years ago, in which someone was pointed to a conversion utility:

https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/comments/434kn0/how_do_i_open_or_convert_an_ssf_video_file/

Unfortunately, that link is no longer valid.

Could someone please suggest a method [in Windows, ideally] for converting .SSF to a

3.5mm portable mic for tiny consumer camera?

Equipment/Software News & Reviews

Hi,

A friend has a low-end video camera that they would like to interview some people with using an external mic. Outdoors.

The camera is a tiny Canon Vixia RF H600. You know, it's one of those tiny consumer cameras meant for filming birthday parties or whatever. It only has a 3.5mm jack labeled "microphone."

Can anyone recommend a microphone with decent outdoor quality that will just work with the Vixia? Ideally, I guess it would be one that could be handed to someone. Guess it would need battery power?
