About seven weeks ago I published a scraper on the Apify Store for Likee, the short-video app that's big in a bunch of countries outside the US. I picked it because there was only one other actor covering it and it looked like a gap. This week I got my first payout: $37.
Not life changing money, obviously. But it's the first time something I built has been used by strangers who paid for it without me talking to them, and that felt worth writing up.
Some numbers from the dashboard since launch:
- around 7,200 runs total, 6,000 of those in the last 30 days
- 12 paying users, 4 of them active this month
- 99.9% of runs succeed
- pricing is pay per result, starting at $5 per 1,00
Resellers have a specific problem that keyword scrapers can't touch: you're holding an item and you don't know what it's called. Collectibles are the worst case, where the difference between two nearly identical variants can be 10x in price and the right search term is three words you've never heard of.
So instead of searching by text, my actor takes a photo. Upload a picture (or pass a URL / base64 through the API), and it finds eBay sold listings whose photos actually look like yours, ranked by visual similarity. You get real sold prices, dates, and condition, plus a free summary record with median/average so an API caller gets "what's this worth" in one request.

I have been building scrapers/crawlers on apify.com lately, if you have any ideas that would help you or your business solve a problem, or simply make your life easier please let me know! Willing to build anything and am looking for ideas

Anyone who resells or collects knows the sold-comps dance: you've got an item in hand, you don't know exactly what it's called, so you try five different keyword searches, squint at thumbnails, and hope the listings you found are actually the same thing.
I built a scraper that skips the keywords. You upload a photo (iPhone pics work as-is, up to 10 MB) and it compares your image against the photos on eBay's sold listings using CLIP visual similarity — the same kind of model behind reverse image search. You get back the sold listings ranked by how closely they match your photo, with prices, sold dates, and condition, plus a summary row with median/average so you have an instant read on val
I do a lot of estate sale sourcing and got tired of opening listings one by one just to see what was actually at each sale.
So I built an EstateSales.net scraper that pulls the sale info into one dataset, including the full photo gallery for each listing instead of just the thumbnail.
You can scrape by ZIP code, an entire state, or nationwide and get things like:
- sale name/company
- address + location
- dates
- listing URL
- photo count
- main image
- full image gallery
You can export everything to CSV, Excel, JSON, etc.
I mainly built it so you can scan a bunch of sales faster and potentially find worthwhile inventory before driving around all day.
