Assuming flour for the first and sugar for the second, what was in the rest of your canisters? I think ours was brown sugar (in its open bag) and then tea bags. Also, did you leave scoops/spoons in them?

I keep no canisters today. The open bags go into ziplocks and up into the cupboards.

My husband just lost his flour to weevils on the Oregon Trail and it made me think of our avocado green Tupperware set of canisters….. and I gotta tell ya, now that I envision ours….. I don’t think we ever washed them.

The reason struggle meals even exist is because we were ingredient households in the first place (acknowledging that I’m assuming a lot here).

Leftover this-and-that. A can of tuna with mayo and relish with saltines. Or butter and saltines. Or cheese individuals for grilled cheese with the last two slices of bread—there was likely a can of tomato soup in the pantry—or chicken noodle. Or Spaghetti-O’s. Toast with butter and sugar (OG poptarts lol). Oatmeal with grape jelly bcs we’re out of sugar (SO GOOD TO THIS DAY!!!)

Back then shopping lists were standard: butter, milk, bread, eggs, cheese, meat, veg, fruit, chips, cookies, lunch meat, cereal, rice, noodles. A pack of batteries or light

My teen stepdaughter, God love her, cannot or will not make a pot of noodles wherein she doesn’t leave noods in the sink drain (no disposal here).

But let her loose baking? There’s no forensic evidence she was ever in the kitchen. AND she knows how to improvise for something we don’t have, which is an accomplishment in baking.

I just today realized her talent. Talked to her about it. She doesn’t care if it’s scratch or boxed. And yes, she does like to eat what she cooks. Sweet and/or savory. She didn’t know I like her cooking bcs I didn’t want to be fat about it.

When I tell you I’m about to foster this interest and see what it takes (or gives)….

It’s been a rough road having bby gir

I’m Gen X, mother was Silent Generation.

When mom was menopausal, she took hormone replacement. Wellbutrin I think it was. Gave “peace of mind,” as it were. Come to think of it, maybe it was something akin to progesterone.

Then, by my time, menopausal hormone replacement was no longer a thing. IDK why. I feel like it was a situation where danger outweighed benefit or some such.

It seems in today’s times, I’ve gathered that we’re back to hormone replacement. Is this true?

Finding out she was pregnant with Kaiser, nurses asks, “any street drugs, any marijuana?”

J denies and Nathan co-signs.

On their first few dates J divulges to N that she’s facing HEROIN charges.

For reference, Gen X.

During weekend grocery shops and other things driving-around-town related, I recall seeing roadside flower stands and my mom whispering under her breath, “the moonies.” Was that about Jim Jones? I know there was a Reverend Moon, but was he also Jim Jones?

In particular, they posted up in a corner lot at Main and Noe Bixby I think? What eventually housed Hibernia Apartments.

Nobody and I mean nobody like us knows what it’s like to clear a cupboard or freezer or fridge or pantry of expired goods…

Because finding the expiry dates on each item is soul sucking, demoralizing and dehumanizing. You just gotta commit to the throwaways and keep it moving. Expired for 10 years means a fifth grader is living in the kitchen.

Happy Fourth y’all!

For reference, I’m a female Gen X which is to say I saw and experienced some adult shit well beyond my years, and it was unwillingly.

Is it a stretch that I was a helicopter parent in order to “help” my daughter avoid the same experiences?

P.S. It didn’t work out for me. We’re estranged. There’s more to the story but goddamnit anyway.

Not complaining, but what happened to the June Bugs? They’re usually here by early May. Did the cooler temps keep them away this year?

So, in American English for example, there is a great misuse of “I seen,” or “they was,” or “had went.”

Are there similar errors in other languages?

Any memorable CB Handles?

I was thinking of my earliest form of social medi. Had to be magazines. I used to stock up on the beauty rags. People. As a pre-teen, Mad.

I believe there was a CB community, and their “usernames” were usually pretty clever.
