(promoted by the towers falling question but didn’t want to derail)
Leaving aside the buildings collapsing, and even the jet fuel being such an outside factor, what was the standard FDNY response for fires that high up back then?

I’m assuming that the building has sprinklers and other safety systems, but they were probably knocked out of commission immediately on impact?

Does that suggest that they’re designed to be enough to prevent such a conflagration from happening in the first place, and that it’s the impact/explosion that meant things immediately got out of control?

NY obviously has a shitload of skyscrapers, and more super-tall ones being built all the time. They must make firefi

Hi all, I am an enthusiastic noob, and have started a couple of ESP32 projects which I am really enjoying working on. I am using Claude to assist me, but based on my written requirements, and fed to me in a way that allows me to learn as I go, rather than just having the AI do it all for me. I'm also trying to do research instead of just asking it to figure everything out, as I want to learn and it also gives me much better context for trouble-shooting, and designing in the future.

Anyway, I have a need/desire to be able to send "notifications" based on certain triggers, and I'm just wondering what the general consensus/thoughts are on services to use for these. I have done some research,

I've seen the use of CIWS on naval vessels for some time, for use against fast moving targets, usually high rate of fire Gatling type guns flooding an area with rounds.

Most anti-air systems moved towards missiles over time, the use of high ROF guns for AA falling away. We did have units like the Tunguska which utilised guns, but I'm wondering whether an armoured unit like this with guns as an anti-drone machine would make any sense?

A high ROF, quick turrets, ability to flood an area with rounds, would be a decent defence? I'm talking more about the small/medium dr

Does it do anything, really? Sometimes it’s on, sometimes it’s off, I can see some lighting changes but is there any effect on actual gameplay?

Also, is there any way to write on the map? The pencils all do lines, but it would be nice to be able to add notes?

I came across a podcast that got a bunch of performers together and did a performance of the infamous “The Gun” episode.

For those that don’t know, it was a season 2 episode that got all the way through production to the first table read before they decided they didn’t want to do it due to the subject matter.
It’s discussed at the beginning of the video, or you can skip to the episode.

Once I’ve chambered a round and charges, is it possible to unload it? Or do I have to just shoot it off somewhere safe to be able to use that gun again, if I’ve put the wrong shell type and/or incorrect number of charges in for instance.

Where does Starlink connect to the ground? For instance I live in New Zealand in a rural area, and Starlink has been great out here. I do wonder however where the signal goes before it connects back to the "normal" internet backbone. I'm assuming/pretty sure that it's not passing the signal from satellite-to-satellite all the way around the planet and then down to one of just a handful of connections. I would think it's passing the signal from satellite-to-satellite far enough to get to a local connection point, where it then routes via the standard main-trunk fiber lines that all ISPs would use?

I suppose total throughput would be a consideration? For instance you'd need an orbit-to-grou

A few weeks ago I saw a post that mentioned the novel "The Unincorporated Man", so I added it to my reading list, and started it when I finished my last book. It was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and moved quickly on to the next one, The Unincorporated War.

However at the end of that, I searched in my usual ebook sites for the next one, The Unincorporated Woman, and can't find it. As well as not being able to find it on pirate sites, I can't purchase it for Kindle either. It seems as if a digital copy just doesn't exist.

I can of course buy a paperback version (like I'm Amish or something 😁), but that will take weeks to arrive, given the state of international shipping, it will cost me 3
