The Royal Navy modernized many of their old C-class cruisers into AAW ships from the late 30s through the early years of WW2, but I wonder if they shouldn’t have done even more.

The Danae (“D”) class for example seems to be a pretty outdated design as well which would have been better to have its 6” guns replaced with smaller dual purpose weapons in more numerous mounts. Not even just for anti-aircraft work but for use as an escort as the lighter weight shells should be more than compensated for in a higher rate of fire against something like merchant raider.

Even the Hawkins class maybe could have been made more useful as large AA ships, as at least to my lay perspective they don’t seem l

More and more it seems navies are fielding primarily forces of ships the size of cruisers of old. The most prominent navy having this issue is the US Navy and their constant failures at a frigate program, but they seem far from alone. Like the Royal Navy is phasing out their mine countermeasure vessels for mothership type vessels.

How much do y’all see these as problems in operationally deploying surface forces for various roles?

Or is it really not that much of an issue in the modern era, with how modern large frigates and up can operate as mothership to various craft especially drones and the lighter crewing requirements nowadays?

To me it seems like the issues of cost deploying always

I am aware it might be somewhat of a fool’s errand, but I like something active to do when the bait is sitting in the water waiting.

I’ve caught a couple of blues on my favorite lures, Mepps in-line spinners, but I was wondering what else might have success. I would think that something like a lipless crank bait with a rattle might also be good with the vibrations, especially in the ever murky Potomac I fish in, though have yet to try myself much.

Have y’all had any success with artificial lures?

While the submarine arm of the Royal Navy is set to expand based on the Defense Investment Plan, the surface fleet is set to stay in mostly its suboptimal state with a large emphasis on as of yet to be developed drone technology for both surface and aviation assets,

Areas of specifically mine countermeasure and patrol are being left quite bare compared to what things were even in recent memory.

Is there anything that y’all think will be added, or is this even maybe a better than likely outlook on what the future of the British military will be?

I’m admittedly a fairly clueless Yank, so I’m wondering about if there’s any insight into reactions or political will which might make light of po

Navies are inherently needing to be as efficient as possible, especially in terms of weapon systems which are always not only expensive and heavy but also manpower and maintenance intensive. This does bring up the question; could the medium caliber guns of modern ships be made more useful in the modern era, maybe even in the underwater realm?

There already is a 127mm (5") cargo/cluster shell in existence as seen above, the submunitions are dual-purpose shaped charge type, so that they can penetrate an amount of armor. But it also makes them like a miniatu

In the day and age of drones, not only kamikaze drones but also now large drones who can carry their own ordnance, it seems like cheap defensive guns of both the CIWS variety and those slightly less advanced are paramount. Few other options are as economical per target and yet can offer the needed range, as well as be mounted on nearly anything that floats.

But I think a serious question is what caliber to choose?

The 20mm and 25mm have long been naval staples, they allow for a very large magazine and high rates of fire. But they also seriously limit fuzing options and are limited in their effective range. On the flip side 25mm is the lower limit now for a proximity fuse round, and a rotar

Not only are they of course two of the most powerful people in the Leaf who must be absolutely gutted that Naruto is supposedly dead, but they are also only behind Sakura in people who should be there helping Sarada.

There’s only one conscious person who has experience with the sharingan blindness that Sarada is experiencing, who also knows all the abilities of the MS: Kakashi. Plus there’s a lot of abilities Sarada could make use of, like one of the ranged Chidori variants or Lightning clone. Purple Lightning too would be a pretty massive upgrade and it could mean all of team 7 could do it together.

And Tsunade is probably one of the only people to have experience healing the Sharingan (y

What would be the minimum dimensions and materials to make a mini-furnace for crucible steel?

Good afternoon y’all, I hope that this post is alright and find you well.

I’m trying to get into some at-home metal crafting, the start of such being that I have found in my outdoor activities a surprising amount of iron ore and would like to make something out of it. Nothing major, my main goal is just rings and maybe small knives

The coolest thing to make in my opinion would be to be able to make Wootz/crucible/Damascus steel out of it. I love the look, history, and idea of it. But I’m not sure how to ensure that I actually make something that can melt iron at the needed temperature, preferab
