There will be a few more of these posted

Hunting stories ;

Hawkeye and the bear dying happy.

Hawkeye was out hunting bear one year and came across a bear sitting on a stump in a forest meadow. Dad was behind the bear at a distance of around 100 yards with the wind/breeze blowing towards him. Hawkeye noticed the bear was doing something, so he was able to get a good sight and posture for a 1 shot harvest

Hawkeye dropped the bear and did the normal 15 minute wait ( NEVER just walk up to a bear after you drop it ), after putting his falcon pipe and tobacco away, Hawkeye walked to where the bear was laying and had a chuckle, and then apologised to the bear for shoot

My dad, known in these stories as Hawkeye , was born early 1942 and adopted the day after his birth due to him being born out of wed-lock ( he would always joke about being a certified bastard with the papers to prove it )

Hawkeye was an avid hunter, loved black powder rifles ( he went to numerous rendezvous in the states and Canada, and it was during this time that he earned his nickname. ) he rode a snortin Norton Atlas/Commando , was a fair shade tree mechanic and liked to drink

My dad, "Hawkeye" passed away this morning age 80. He was an aficionado of muzzle loaders and Norton motorcycles. He leaves behind 2 sons ( my brother and I ).

He had a wicked sense of humour and a liking for the occasional dram of Jameson Whiskey or tot of fireball whisky and the occasional Guiness.

He liked to drive pick ups and was a fair shade tree mechanic. He worked at numerous jobs during his 80 years. He was an avid hunter for most of his life.

Lift a glass or a pint in celebration of my dad, for he is now in the great hunting grounds putting the stalk on a big bull Elk.
