I struggled a bit trying to get the KivyMD hot reload tool working properly, so I documented the required steps in case it might help someone else avoid the issues I ran into.
If you don't want to read the entire post, the tl;dr for manually enabling the KivyMD hot reload tool is this:
Make sure the Python watchdog library is installed
Import the right MDApp class
Override the appropriate build method (hint: it's notbuild())
Set the DEBUG property
Populate the variables that tell hot reload what to watch for changes
A while back I posted a short tutorial on how I create React applications in Python using the Transcrypt transpiler.
I recently came up with an improvement to the approach that eliminates all of the calls to createElement() when building React component trees that is required since using JSX isn't a practical option in Python modules with Transcrypt.
The basic premise involves the use of just one simple Python decorator function that wraps a React functional component in the call to createElement(). Then instead of using syntax like this as I have been in my Python React modules:
This is mostly just to vent, but I self-published my first book about 2-1/2 months ago and already found it posted up on a piracy site. I knew it was inevitable that this was going to happen eventually, but the fact I haven't even recouped my direct out-of-pocket costs in royalties yet makes it hurt that much more. I already asked them to remove it but I know it's ultimately a losing battle.
