My level in ES is a solid C1. In French I like Thinkerview, in English I like stuff like Ezra Klein or Econtalk.. anything similar in Spanish? something serious, not very “produced”, smart guests.. aprendemos juntos is too much like a speech for my taste

when I read history books in my slightly dim room during day that don’t require a ton of concentration, I tend to get sleepy (I sleep enough).. I noticed that if I read on ipad in darkish room with a ton of brightness, I tend to stay quite alert.. what should I do? get a light therapy lamp? or a bright desk lamp?

thankyou very much for suggestions!!

PS: (I don’t have issue to same extent when learning math or some complex philosophical text, that require lots of very active thinking)

hey I’m fairly new to becoming a big reader (not forcing myself I enjoy it very much!) and try to read several hours a day and longer on weekends.. do you have a strategy for maintaing focus and excitement? I was thinking of maybe always reading two books at a time and splitting up say 4h to read each for 2h at a time.. I try not to rush through books for the sake of finishing them quick by the way.. do you have a good strategy you developed for yourself? has this question already been asked? thankyou all :)

any advice given that specific goal? I downloaded some anki sets (any recommendations) and will consider working through the penguin russia book.. what else would you recommmend for that minimal approach? I don’t have time and don’t want to achieve anymore than simple russian for traveling

I have a subscription to the Economist and Foreign Affairs but would like to add a Science magazine in to the mix

I’m looking for a strictly interview based podcast like Re conversa from Brazil or Thinkerview from France.. more “narrative” based (for lack of better description) like la banda presidencial confuse me when listening and I have a hard time following

thanks so much!

I was just wondering because the Christians in my family believe that being a good person isn’t enough “you need to believe in Jesus for salvation”, but is this part of the message of the synoptic gospels or this more a Gospel of John & Paul thing? I’m a layman btw

now what if you only followed and read the synoptic gospels (and believed they were true) what view on this would follow most?

apologies & please link the thread if this was already asked before

Brazilian Government Website: “Citizens travelling with passports from Australia, Canada and the United States visiting Brazil for tourism and business will be subject to visa requirements for entry into Brazilian territory starting from April 10th, 2025”

in another place the website talks about US passport “holders”.. what does holder mean? is it the same as simply “owner”?

I don’t want to pay 80$ fee and have a European passport besides the US one.. can I just leave the US passport at home and ignore the fee and e-visa?

thankyou all

I don’t really like following & reading blogs all that much but I really like it when the authors post a bunch of links to articles on a regular basis

currently I visit marginal revolution & café hayek to get good links for the day.. what other blogs do you guys go to for that?

I like reading the Economist, Financial Times and NZZ (German).. can you recommend any (ideally center to center right) newspaper in Russian but not from Russia?

I’ve had trouble finding something of comparable quality for listening practice
