So, I am unemployed in this abysmal job market for designers. Even freelance assignments are 1/5 what they used to be. I have 9 years of experience. I’m looking to step up into my first official senior role. Am I way over-qualified for jobs that are just labelled generic Graphic or Digital Designer (vs. junior or mid) but they do list the years of experience as 1-3 years, or 2+ years kinda thing. That does imply they want junior or early mid but is it worth applying anyway cuz you never know, maybe they magically want a senior?! It’s hard man 😭 I could do them in my sleep and I need moneys lol (like everyone).

Usually for small startup companies or boutique studios, I have found. Interviewing for one at the moment. Do you find it a good or bad thing? In what circumstances would it be a good thing to you? Would you outright avoid, if so why? What are your years of experience / what position are you?

A job I’m a candidate for may require it at the end. I’ve had 10 years of experience. I have a folio. I have a CV. I have references. I have my voice in an interview. I’m honestly considering refusing to do it if I do get asked. To me, it’s insulting as hell. Are designers not professionals? What other industry gets asked to do a test this late in the game?

I feel really ashamed and embarrassed. I started watching ER for the first time a few weeks ago. Brilliant show. They spent the first 2 seasons depicting this beautiful friendship with the two leads, they go through some real shit in their lives, but the constant is they are there for each other. They’re both good people, especially the woman, she’s just so warm, kind and caring.

It’s not platonic, even though they aren’t acting on anything (because life, being with different people etc. and then at the end they hesitate because they are scared that the other doesn’t want to move out of friendship).

Finally the timing seems right and they start ramping up them falling in love, the writer

First episode that Susan returns in s8, when she’s having coffee with Mark. She says she wishes he called her to tell her about his brain tumour, and he makes fun of how absurd that conversation would be on a phone call out of the blue. So then she says or even a letter or something. And he goes (cynically) “Oh yeah, like when you wrote me a letter to tell me you were engaged?” and she replies “It wasn’t an engagement, and we’re over.”

He equated her writing a letter to tell him she was engaged as equivalent pain to if he wrote her a letter to say he had brain cancer. And also I’m not sure what she was telling him in the letter, maybe that she was in a serious relationship with someone, bu

It’s me again 😭 I’m trying you guys! First watch of ER (except when I was a kid) so pretty please no spoilers. I know what eventually happens to Mark but that’s it. Zero else.

So it ripped my heart out as much as Mark’s that she leaves because they would have been amazing together. So much potential for wholesomeness there that never got a chance.

So I’ve been dutifully watching the episodes after, I’ve just watched episode 18, and it’s so empty! Her character left a big void. Not much has really even happened.

Makes me appreciate that her character was actually really great on her own, as well as being an important presence for the other characters and especially the chemistry with Gr

Should I put this in my folio…

Asking Question (Rule 4)

In-house designer. Big campaign we did. Questioning putting in cutdowns of videos provided by a creative agency?

They did the videography and sound design, I did the text and turned their versions into shorter versions. Which involved going in and editing the sound design as well as the rest of it.

They’re really awesome but it feels kinda like I shouldn’t really get any credit. It was a monster campaign, took me and a videographer two weeks to do the cutdowns (lots of products, different versions and layouts etc.)

I did do some actual graphic / digital design for the campaign but yeah. Everyone was talking about the videos as folio pieces when we did them, but I dunno!

So interested in

Please no spoilers (there’s already plenty I’ve read by accident in the 0.2 seconds I researched this issue lol, don’t want any more), first time watch (except when I was a kid and it was on TV…) and just got to the episode in season 3 where Susan leaves.

Mate, her and Mark were the only two characters keeping me watching! All the others are honestly just shit people. All of them. Kerry is okay but she gives me flashbacks to all the terrible micromanagers I’ve ever had.

They built it up for a few episodes and then bam! No soup for you. I know from googling this is because the actress quit suddenly. Like I would have preferred if they never started building the romance at all, but they di

Freelance on resume?

Asking Question (Rule 4)

I’ve done about 5 months in between jobs, via freelance agencies. Currently about to do some more, and will keep doing so until I get my next job. Put it on resume or no? Nothing of significance really, I wouldn’t put anything in my folio. I didn’t drive some big projects or anything. Was brought in to help and that’s about it (which is a lot of freelance gigs via agencies). But still, I could spin it as experience still and adaptability.

I haven’t had to apply for work since early 2024. AI has exploded since then. Wondering if it’s crept into our industry here in Australia. I will be applying for in-house jobs shortly, I thought it was gonna be nice and “easy”, quick update of my folio and resume and off I go. I have never had trouble getting interviews. But now I’m not so sure! If it’s heavily AI influenced I’m guessing I’ll have to learn the art of getting through bot filters rather than getting a hiring managers’ attention with a cover letter.

2022 Golf Life 1.4L turbo
8-speed automatic (not DSG)

High pitched uniform whistle sound when coasting, lower the speed lower the pitch, starts at roughly 20km/h stops at roughly 45-50km/h

Best way I can describe it is like in old cartoons when they drop something from a height (like an anvil or a bomb lol)

Can’t hear it from inside cabin with windows closed, have to open them

Sound is unchanged by applying brakes

Sound stops when accelerator is pressed (even ever so slightly so it’s not engine noise covering it up)

Sound stops (and does not occur at all) if I switch into neutral, comes straight back if I switch back into drive

Sound does not occur if car is stationary in neutral

For my trip next year in July. I’m a solo hiker, scared of bears and I have never done hikes with scrambling or that are exposed, so now is not the time to try them on my own!

Also honestly really freaked out about bears hiking alone. So I’m wanting to stick to well-trafficked spots but still rewarding views. 1-4 hours. I don’t want to ruin my own trip being on edge all the time, not worth it.

From my limited research so far I’ve made an exception for The Big Beehive in terms of duration, and my understanding is that isn’t hard anyway, just brutally uphill (which is fine for the reward!)

I can meticulously go through AllTrails and find stuff (and Parks Canada etc.), and I will, but thou
