I received my first acceptance last Friday to uOttawa's Master of Public and International Affairs and my second last night from Laurier's Master in International Public Policy and I can't believe it! Laurier also stated that they're recommending me for a Graduate Fellowship!

Background, I originally applied right out of my undergraduate in 2017 and got rejected by all. It really affected me and I decided to forget about it. I started to work in a completely different field but I kept thinking about going back to school. Last summer, I decided to start by just writing down the programs I liked. I was so afraid that my GPA wasn't good enough or my professors wouldn't remember me or how I wo

I just finished rewatching Ugly Betty and love how it ended with Daniel and Betty getting together. Anyone have any recs similar to them - uptight boss and quirky/eccentric "unattractive" assistant? Extra points if the FMC is no longer the MMC's assistant and has moved on in her career/doing her own thing.

What was that book called? Mafia Romance

What was that book called: SOLVED

I read a book a few years back and it was so good but I can't remember the name. What I remember is it was a mafia romance where the FMC was married to a really old Mafia boss who dies and the MMC who takes over, marries her but thinks she's a gold digger. Also I remember they would have sex but he didn't kiss her or didn't face her or something like that.

Any help would be appreciated 🙂

I saw Emily last night at TIFF and just wanted to say it was amazing! If you're a Bronte fan or a fan of Emma Mackey from Sex Education or just love gothic dramas, you'll want to check it out. It's based on Emily Bronte's life, specifically her dynamic with her sister, Charlotte as well as the love (s) of her life and her place within society. The acting, music and cinematography was great. The scenery was also stunning and it's the directorial debut of Frances O'Connor who was Fanny Price in Mansfield Park (1999). Not sure when it'll be released in cinemas but definitely recommend when it does!

I've no love for the British monarchy considering how they treated by ancestors but when I saw she died yesterday, I couldn't help but feel sad because it reminded me of my grandmother (who died a few years ago) and alot of my great aunts/people of that generation who admired her and were also raised at a time where Trinidadian society was based on British values. Just the names of everything as well is Queen this and Queen that.

I started feeling conflicted because colonization is one of the most abhorrent things in recent history but yet if it wasn't for the events that occurred, I wouldn't be a Trini. I probably would have been in a poor village in India, married off with a few children

I watched The Piano Teacher last night and I don't even know what to say. Some scenes were so uncomfortable but I couldn't look away. What a powerhouse performance from Isabelle Huppert. I've never seen a character, especially a woman, portrayed with such rawness or intensity. I'm not familiar with Michael Haneke but I'm definitely going to check out more of his stuff. Curious to know what other people thought of it.

A few situations currently happening in my life. A new co-worker and a friend of a friend I've recently met seem to just not like me. When they let me, they did the whole head to foot scan of me which I thought was weird and after knowing them a little, they both have a typical 'pick me' personality. They start sentences with 'I know all women like this but I can't...' or 'i never had alot of female friends because...'. Typical things like that which I can handle in a group setting but if we're the only two women in the group or if it's one on one, they make these back handed compliments towards me or give me unsolicited advice about my career/relationship/body. Very Mean Girls-esque. I'm in

I'm trying to go to Sandbanks (Lakeshore or Outlet beach) next Thursday. I know it's very busy on the weekends and you have to get there pretty early but does anyone know how it is on Thursdays or the weekdays? I'm thinking of getting there at 12/1 but not sure if that's early enough.

Since alot of us didn't like the new adaptation of Persuasion and I personally thought Dakota was the furthest thing from what I imagined Anne to be, who would you cast as her, Wentworth and Elliot?

I'm Indo-Trinidadian and I just don't understand why Nadia who's Indo-Guyanese, hired Sima. It was such a big red flag in season 1 when Sima called Guyanese 'a different caste'. That alone should have told her she's doesn't understand her culture. Nadia seems to have an inferiority complex when it comes to her Guyanese roots and while that's valid considering how Indo-Caribbean people are viewed in the wider Indian culture, I just think she'd be better off dating someone ago is also Indo-Caribbean or of the wider diaspora. Just from personal experience, Indian vs Indo-Caribbean culture is very different, especially with things like dating and marriage.

I'm currently reading Empire of Lust by Rina Kent and I love the FMC, Aspen. It's about her having a baby as a teenager and thinking she died but fast forward years later and she's alive and was raised by the father who's the usual super rich, powerful, dark MMC. She is a Senior Partner at a law firm and has a very fiery personality and doesn't take shit from anyone, including him. It's very battle of the sexes. I also love that she's excelled in her career and the reason they share the same space is because she wants to get to know her daughter.

Does anyone have any recs for books similar to this? Where the FMC is established/already has a good career and she meets the MMC after a couple

Apologies if this was posted already but I know there's been alot of discussion regarding >!in the books Pen loses weight before her love story!< Many people including myself were hoping they wouldn't keep that aspect. Came across this Variety article with the new showrunner that confirms they're changing it.

"So, throughout the books, >!Pen's weight and weight loss is referenced multiple times!<, partially in an inner monologue way. Is that something that you guys will be touching on at all?"

'We think that Penelope is beautiful, and I don't think it's really a part of her story. Her being a wallflower in our show I think is about her level of confidence more than it is about

I just watched Breathless for the first time and loved it. The dialogue, the back and forth between the two leads and their chemistry was amazing. Made me think of It Happened One Night or the Before trilogy. Can anyone recommend similar films?
