My wife is a Japanese citizen primarily living in the US (9 months/year), has Japanese bank accounts and recently inherited properties in 2025. We have a Japanese residence, mobile phone, etc.

I’m trying to find a better brokerage account than Daiwa in order to invest in things like Japanese stocks or mutual funds. She inherited her mom’s Daiwa account, but the fees are pretty steep for trading (like 3% a trade).

It seems like some brokerages either won’t do business with her (Rakuten?) or maybe just won’t let her open a NISA. It’s not clear with my extremely limited Japanese and Google Translate.

Are there restrictions at some banks based on her situation? I don’t necessarily need the

Maybe TLDR, but there’s a lot of nuances and I think this might be helpful as I can’t see anywhere that really gets into the heart of Apple Watch activation on USM:

I’m having some trouble getting my kids standalone Apple watches to work consistently. Right now one stopped working and now won’t connect at all and support seems stumped.

The whole difficulty with Apple Watches seems bigger than US mobile. As my wife and I always say to each other, Steve Jobs is definitely dead. So I don’t fault US Mobile, but…here goes…

I got both working on USM standalone plans two weeks ago. Yay!

Gotcha #1- support rep said the Apple Watches needed to be paired with a phone with an active cellular plan

Does somebody want to reach out to Ty Cobb and see if he misspoke about recriminations in “Allende’s Chile?” I mean Allende was a Socialist/Marxist, but Cobb had to have meant “Pinochet’s Chile” and the junta and brutality that followed.

NJ born and I wanted to like this place, but I had a really hard time. I routinely will see them at HOB or Royale in Boston and it’s night and day: The size is cool but I think the plaster walls and concrete floors are a big mistake for the acoustics of rock shows. Was this place always like this?

If you were having trouble hearing last night you weren’t alone. I couldn’t make out Girl Tones at all.

Not trying to be negative but I think the wrong venue can do a band a disservice.

My Japanese wife is looking to invest her inheritance funds, she’s taken over her mother’s account at Daiwa.

Reading some pages here and trying to confirm:

-A 2.25% trading fee for a Nikkei 225 index fund is as absurd in Japan as it in would be in the US.

-Other brokerages like Rakuten or those I read on TokyoCheapo might be a little better attuned to the smaller retail investor. We’re not big money here. Also probably need to setup a NISA, but table that for now.

Looking for any opinions on those two points. Not looking to move the money out of Japan. TIA.

Just a reminder to all, Acapulco’s is shuttering its’ doors tonight. Hopefully to reopen somewhere else, though one never knows.

For those that don’t get the Patriot Ledger, Mayor Koch and the city government are spending $3.3+ million taxpayer dollars, (property purchase, relocation and construction fees) to acquire and knock down the current building down via eminent domain and then put in a small park with a statue of John Adams.

While this may be (by my count) the third statue of John Adams coming to Quincy Center, one really can never have enough, amirite? City budgets, taxpayer dollars and margaritas be damned.
