Good morning,

Thank you for contacting me about the Supreme Court ruling on the appeal brought by For Women Scotland. In its judgment, the Supreme Court announced on 16 April it had reached a unanimous decision that the terms ‘man’, ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex. It ruled that a Gender Recognition Certificate does not change a person’s legal sex for the purposes of the Act.

It stated the definition of sex in the Act “makes clear that the concept of sex is binary”. It further noted that ‘although the word “biological” does not appear in this definition, the ordinary meaning of those plain and unambiguous words corresponds with the biological character

Hey all, I'm looking for advice/tips for staying positive and sticking to my guns and morals when everyone around me seems determined to shaft everyone else!

Just this last three weeks, morale on my team has hit rock bottom. It's a busy city centre hub, small-ish team, so we're constantly busy be it Friday night or Monday morning.

It seems recently everyone (and not just in my team) is out to get each other.

Aspiring sergeants getting pissy and shafting colleagues by seeking examples. Cops passing the buck, doing the least amount of work possible, picking and choos

Some typical renting advice needed folks;

Rented a flat in Edinburgh for 3 years. The tenancy ended last month however the letting agency are withholding the deposit.

They're asking for more than the deposit unless certain things are fixed -

  • replacement of both king-size mattresses (which were already used and worn down when we got the property - we slept on our own mattress)
  • deep clean of the property's carpets (we gutted the place when we left and got professional cleaners to clean everything)
  • new cutlery/crockery (we never used the mismatched collection that came with the house; we brought our own)
  • new doorfront for the one kitchen door that is off it's hook (mentioned to

My partner has a big birthday coming up, and I'd like to do something special. I know for a fact that skydiving is on their bucketlist, but I've no idea where to start.

Does anyone have any recommendations for first time skydivers? Or good experiences?

I'm shit scared of flying too, so the more reassuring the-person-strapped-to-me, the better!

I've recently been offered a job in Howdenhall and must confess I'm not too familiar with the area.

Does anyone know if it's a good place to work? Live? Is it quiet etc? I've tried googling but there's not much out there.

I work in LGBT youth work and had a younger person (FtM) ask me for help talking to their young brother about their transition.

The brother is slightly autistic but with a love of YouTube. Regrettably his gender stereotypes are pretty concrete at this stage ("boys don't wear make up").

I normally work with kids and parents from the ages of 12 upwards, so I'm fairly inexperienced with dealing with those that are younger.

So could anyone please recommend any resources or links to YouTube videos that can help?

Hey there, first off - thank you for inventing such a wonderful community!

I'm posting this on behalf of my partner, who is unsure of whether this is the right bike for her. She used to cycle a lot, but hasn't in a while. Hopefully this purchase will change all that.

We live in Edinburgh (an old city - cobblestones!) and cycling is a commute for many. She travels circa 2 miles to work, 5/6 days a week, and the route isn't particularly elevated. It'll mainly be road cycling, on designated cycle tracks; windy weather with rain likely. Traffic-wise, it can get busy but with new 20mph speed limits within the city

So... last night I was at wedding with my partners family. A lot of them don't know me although for the past couple of days I've been very active in helping organise and set up everything....anyway...

The party was in full swing last night and upon going to the bathroom, I overheard some little girls talking about the guy that looks like a girl, when two people I've never met stood up on my behalf and said that girls can have deep voices and that women come in all japes and sizes and they should respect me.

I have them an impromptu hug as I left the restrooms, but it's so gratifying to hear complete strangers defend me. It's nice to know there are some good people in the world.

Hi all. Not posted in here for ages!

I volunteer as a youth worker for an LGBT organisation catering to - amongst others - transgender, gender-fluid and non-binary young people aged between 12-25.

As one of the only transgender individuals in an office full of LG & B people, my colleague asked if I would do a presentation/workshop on what it is like to be transgender, as well as the issues and concerns that the young people we help may face.

I have a rough outline of what to include but if anyone has any ideas or interesting points or topics, then please feel free to share.

Thanks lovelies!
