I knew our food expenses were high but was floored that it was double my highest guess when I went through our statements and added up every meal delivered, grocery trip, coffee, Costco, and meal out. I absolutely hated doom scrolling to find something that tasted good lukewarm. When all the fees would add up to double the cost of my meal and I still hit the payment button, I’d feel deep shame.

Then one day I decided I was just going to make and freeze a large batch of rice. If I didn’t feel like cooking, I’d eat eggs and rice. It was more satisfying to eat than I thought it would be. From there, I made two whole boxes of pasta at once to freeze so I’d have another meal in minutes. Over th

BACKGROUND

According to my pH test I don’t have GERD. My manometry indicated “significantly positive” for achalasia type 2. I should be having a POEM done in a couple of months.

Lately, my chest has been burning and there’s a foul taste in my mouth. I’ve had bubbling sounds coming from my chest throughout the day for about a year, but has been louder recently (I’ve named it Stanley because they sound like a curmudgeonly old man). I’ve been on a soft diet for about as long.

MY CHALLENGE

I feel like food is fermenting in my chest and that’s why my symptoms have escalated recently. I decided to ask ChatGPT to help me come up with a meal replacement shake to replace my meals for a week as

My ex passed away. Everyone ((new wife and the two kids (27M | 22F) I had with him)) was fine with his mom taking his ashes. Our daughter wanted to visit his grave for Father’s Day. She saved up her money and bought a plane ticket to visit his mom and to see his burial site.

Background

After he died, his mom was in touch with all of us (new wife, kids, me, and his friends). She told me she wanted to bury his ashes so she could visit him. After a couple of months, she cut off contact with everyone. My daughter was afraid something bad happened and called the police to do a wellness check. Her grandmother told the police she didn’t want to speak with anyone.

She was close with my daughte

I’ve had a few“friends” who say they have fun hanging out but then never, as in not even once, initiate getting together. It only happens if I reach out. I stopped reaching out to a couple of them. It’s been years, and I haven’t heard a word. If you do this, why? Do they ever cross your mind?

I don’t understand how you can enjoy spending time with someone and not invest in that friendship. Now that I’m older I focus on reciprocal friendships.

I come from the private sector and have recently obtained my first job in the public sector.

For those of you who have recently made the switch or have someone new to public on your team, I’d love some thoughts on:

What are some challenges I can prepare for in advance?

What differences should I be aware of?

What should I avoid doing?

What can help me start on the right foot?

What do you wish you knew when you started?

What are some ways I can get some small wins?

I don’t know what I’m expecting from this post. When my ex took his own life almost 2 years ago, his mother was initially in contact with our children, his friends, and me. After a few months she stopped answering her phone and door. My daughter (early 20s) got concerned and called the police to do a wellness check. My ex MIL said she didn’t want to talk to anyone. When I called the police a few months later to check on her, they said she was clear on not wanting to be contacted. Then accused me of “weaponizing the police” by having them check on her.

So I stopped calling and sending her money because I wasn’t sure if she received it. My daughter has been calling her about once a month to

I’ve been watching tickets almost daily on stubhub for the past couple of months. The lowest I’ve seen was $2,100 for a single ticket with obstructed views in the upper bowl. I’m torn because I’ve seen people talk about paying less than that for front row floor seats last year.

Since it’s the last city of the tour, I’m afraid tickets will get more insane in Nov/Dec. Are people really paying over $2K for nosebleeds? Should I buy one now or keep watching and if they’re the same price in September buy them then? Or should I risk it and try the day of? I would be so upset with myself if the tickets the day of were even more expensive.

If people are actually paying over $2K for obstructed nos

I had an interview last week. I didn’t perform my best even though I prepared because of my invisible disability. I thought I’d do fine because it was on video.

Being exposed to certain chemicals causes brain fog and triggers my migraines. I’m away from home so should have taken extra precautions. I went to use the washroom 5 minutes before the interview and got exposed to the chemicals. I had a hard time focusing, reading my notes, and wasn’t as well spoken as I would normally be in that situation. I ended up needing to take my migraine medication afterwards.

I don’t want to say something because it feels like I’m making excuses, but I want to say something because I’m embarrassed by my

I’m done building startups for other people. Built one where I got laid off just when it took off. We were negotiating switching my pay from salary to reduced salary plus equity. I’ve been in the startup world in various ways for almost 15 years. I’m no longer interested in working 70 hour weeks.

I’m thinking of finding a job like washing boats or picking weeds until I figure out my next step.

What does Vancouver need? I just want to get paid an honest dollar for an honest day’s work in a friendly environment where people don’t take themselves so seriously. I’m open to starting a business, partnering, buying one, or working for one.

I’m feeling like I’m overthinking this. I have a few questions:

  1. I have a varied background where I’ve owned my own business, worked for startups, and a Crown corp. Should I emphasize my Crown corp experience?

  2. The job titles are slightly different than my experience. The tasks were similar but not identical. How much does having the exact job matter? Or is it more about demonstrating that I have experience with those tasks? For example, with a past job as a product manager it was more of a project manager job.

  3. I’ve seen mentioned several times to just include information that demonstrates meeting the criteria for the screening. Does this mean use the phrasing verbatim and not ad

My dog will be 12 years old in a few months. I want to make the most of her healthiest senior years. Any ideas?

She’s a 60 lb shepherd/lab mix. People are always surprised to find out how old she is because she looks so good. The past couple of months or so she seems to be aging more quickly. Her hips are getting a tiny bit sticky and the grey in her face is really coming in. She stopped stealing balls a couple of years ago and only chases other dogs for a lap before losing interest.

I’m thinking of taking her to the swimming pool for dogs. It’ll be good for her joints. We walk 3 times a day along the water which she loves. Any other ideas?

I’ve read online about people saying to just start coaching. It seems many coaches object to this. If you’re someone who has built or started a coaching practice without getting certified or you have been certified and you believe you can go ahead and get started, what are the reasons behind your belief that you don’t have to wait to be certified first?
