Rewatching it currently and seeing how his previous experiences genuinely and visibly shaped his demeanor i can actually really appreciate him.
He started out wanting to do things by the book but immediately when a situation is clearly out of his hands he listens to those with experience.
I remember him wrong and thought he was much more hostile but no, he genuinely just wanted to keep everyone safe first and foremost and tried his best to work with everyone.
I get his appearance was disliked especially because he replaced Carter, who i and i think most people loved in the role as Atlantis' leader. But i gotta say Woolsey does a really good job.
