How is it? I've heard from some totally non-reddit-related sources that it unambiguously calls the racist priesthood/exaltation ban what it is. It's published by Deseret Book, so is it possible the church is actually trying to drip feed some truth to the members without having to just come out and admit error and apologize? Are they trying to take more of a "Yes we can be very wrong for hundreds of years, but the right thing to do is put aside your own conscience and believe and obey us anyway" approach?
It's very important that you don't love other people, whom you actually see and interact with on a daily basis, so much that you forget to demonize perfectly natural and harmless aspects of their identity in the name of devotion to a being you've never seen or heard. You only know this being's will because it's told to you by a group of old anti-LGBTQ men in Utah. You must restrain your natural empathy and desire to advocate for the suffering and the marginalized, and ignore your own conscience in favor of dogma and loyalty to the brethren, and by extension, the hidden God that they claim to speak for.
This seems to be the big talking point lately. Yuck!
I saw some tweets about members receiving an email from the church that defends clergy-penitent privilege as a religious principle, and recounts the story of a catholic priest who was jailed because he refused to break confidentiality. Does anyone have any information about this email? Is it legit?
