Yesterday, reddit blocked access to unauthenticated users from accessing the JSON api. Unfortunately, as a result you won't be able to use Now for Reddit to browse reddit without a subscription.

Going forward, if you wish to continue using Now for Reddit your only option is to subscribe and login. Apologies for this - the change reddit made is not something I can change/control.

Hi All

I've released a new update to testers. It's been approved by Google so is available now!

Changes made in this update:

  • Markdown renderer improvements
  • Updated video player (should fix looping issues)
  • Updated billing code (I've spent longer than I care to admit trying to resolve the "there's an issue with your subscription" popups which some users report after renewing their subscription. I hope my changes help but I fear it's an issue with The Google Play subscription cache)
  • Fixed galleries not displaying
  • Fixed window insets (which caused video player controls being displayed behind navigation bar)
  • Updated libraries

Do let me know if you find any

Hey everyone,

It’s been a while (a long while - sorry!) since I last posted a feature request thread. The app now supports pretty much everything the Reddit API offers (except a few mod tools that haven’t been requested much), so I figured it’s a good time to check in and see what features or changes you’d like to see next.

If there are a few small, easy-to-add suggestions, I’ll try to knock those out over the weekend. Otherwise, I’ll bundle the rest into the next release.

Looking ahead, once I’ve gathered your requests, I plan to sort and rank them by popularity and aim to deliver at least one new feature each month - alongside the usual bug fixes and improvements.

So, if you’ve got a f

Hi

I'm aware of the switch from private messages to reddit chat but I assumed the api endpoints for retrieving messages was going to stay unchanged. However, when I try to access messages using the '/message/messages/' endpoint I get an empty list.

What is the method now to retrieve messages and check for new message notifications?

Thanks

Hi All

I've just released a new update to testers. Once approved by Google, people in the beta will get version 6.0.8.

This update includes table support in posts and comments and the ability to view gifs hosted by Giphy.

These new features required extensive changes to the markdown renderer so please give it a good test and let me know if you find any issues.

All going well, I will be releasing another update with a newer video player to fix issues some people are experiencing. I couldn't get it in this update as I found several bugs which would delay this release.

Finally, a big thanks for your patience, I know table support has taken a while ages. But it's here and hopefully it's

Hi All

Just in case you're not aware, reddit made a change to the API yesterday and it broke many apps (this one included). Although I have a contact at reddit who stated they're looking into the issue I'm not confident they'll fix it in a timely manner. Therefore, I've submitted a quick update to Google Play which includes a fix. It should be live for everyone within the next few hours so please update when you get the option to do so.

Apologies again, reddit didn't warn me they were making breaking changes so there wasn't much I could do to prevent this.

Cheers!

Hi All

Whilst I wait to hear from reddit whether they'll roll-back or fix the issue they created with the API today, I've decided to submit a quick fix to the Beta channel - version 6.0.6.

This update should allow you to use all features within the app again. I've noticed a few 404 issues during my rushed testing but I believe these are cache related and will fix themselves.

If you're not a beta tester, you can join the beta channel via the Google Play page: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phyora.apps.reddit_now

This usefulness of this update does, of course, rely on Google approving the update in a timely fashion. Let's cross our fingers!

Apologies again, reddit didn'

Hi All

It seems reddit has made a change today which has broken most of the functionality of the app. The issue isn't only affecting Now/Nara as other developers have reported the issue in r/redditdev.

I have contacted reddit and asked them to look into the issue as a matter of urgency. I will update you as soon as I know more.

Apologies!

#Update 1 Reddit has identified the issue - they're blocking calls to the API if a request has a user-agent with "Android" in it. Now/Nara both include "Android" in their user-agent strings as it was a requirement in their API docs to do so. They are investigating

Hi All

Just a quick update on image uploads. Imgur changed something which broke the old way of uploading images (and they now charge $500/month). I've been trying to check with reddit to see if they'd allow uploads directly from Now for Reddit but I don't think it'll be an option. So I'm now in the process of switching to a different host and I'll have an update out once complete.

Apologies for the issue!

Hey All

A quick update to let you know Nara was removed from Google Play today due to a small policy issue (there isn't a close button on the subscription screen). Who knew you needed a physical close button when you can just hit/swipe the back button!

This has now been added and I've submitted a new update which will hopefully resolve the policy violation.

You may notice issues with subscriptions whilst the app is removed, this is an annoying side-effect where Google breaks the subscription system for users if the app isn't available on Google Play. It's ridiculous but that's their rule!

I've also added a few new features such as being able to quickly filter a subreddit from the context

Hey All

I'll start off with a quick update!

After a hectic few months I'm now able to spend more time on Now for Reddit and hope to get all of the items on my TO-DO list implemented as soon as possible. So please feel free to add your feature requests as a comment below (or a new post if you want to go into more details) and I'll do my very best to implement them.

Today, version 6.0.4 has been submitted to Google Play and will be available to beta testers once it's approved by Google.

In this update is a long awaited feature - the ability to backup your filters and restore them. Filters, by default, are synced to your Google account so you shouldn't lose them but you can now save your

Hey All

I just uploaded version 23.11.08 of Nara, once it's reviewed and approved by Google it'll be available to download.

In this update I have added:

  • Support for reddits new "Share" links
  • Support for caption text on all types of posts
  • The ability to view links which are "hidden" (I.e. the link isn't visible in the link text) before visiting them

I've also updated libraries, so everything is shiny and new :)

If you have any feature requests for the next update please let me know below.

Enjoy!
