I have spent so many years creating arguments for what is moral, but it occured to me that I have no interest in converting people, my interest in sharing my beliefs with others is doing so in such a way that they can understand what I believe, not necessarily that they agree with it.
To that end, I've been trying to rewrite it in an explainatory way than a justifying way, and I think I've worked it down to a single principle underlying the rest of my beliefs;
Moral goodness (or the self-sustaining homeostasis of systems) is an emergent property of all participants in the system behaving organically; i.e. the results of their behaviors affect their continued ability to practice that behav
What is the perfect end state of existence, upon which no improvement is possible?
It doesn't matter if it's possible or achievable, I'm asking for ideals and values here. Also set aside how to achieve it for now, just focus on the end goal.
A friend and I were comparing diatonic and chromatic instruments the other day and we got on to comparing the tin whistle and the button box, and jokingly came up with the idea of strapping two whistles together, pitched in B and C, to mimic the accordion.
But the idea keeps popping up into my head. I think by altering hole size and pipe diameter you could get two instruments of the same length and finger placement that are accurately tuned a semitone apart. And you could mold a single mouthpiece to connect the pipes with two separate blow holes side by side. Then you could play it by tongue blocking like on a harmonica or multi-chamber ocarina to shift between the two blow holes.
It would

Ah, the time honored Aroostook tradition of moose jokes. I've got a few, pitch in yours too!
-Moose can fly, they just choose not to.
-Moose invented mosquitos to show us how annoying being hit by a car feels like to them.
-Craters on the moon? Moose tracks.
-A puppy once wore a moose pelt. It became the first bear.
-They say fir trees used to be able to walk, they stopped because they're too petrified.
-They say moose don't reflect light, but that's not true - it shows up as the northern lights.
-When moose get hungry, trees drop their leaves out of fear. It's why Autumn happens during the rut.
-The reason the word 'moose' has no plural is cause it's hard enough to fath
The world is younger than ever, having increased by two billion people in just the last twenty five years years, and approximately 43% of the world's population is under 25. Of course there's going to be less children per person when a higher percentage of the world's population is children. And of course the world's population is going to be a higher percentage children the faster it is growing.
So how much of the decline in fertility rate is due to statistical error like this versus due to total lifetime fertility reduction?
I have a pretty crazy idea. I want to build a mini diatonic concertina. One which only has 7 buttons plus an air button, only enough to cover the same 14 notes as a D tin whistle. Four keys on each side, bisonoric like an anglo but sequentially alternating hands like an english.
Does anyone know where I can find single concertina or harmonica reeds in various pitches? I'm considering getting some harmonica reed plates for D and G and cutting them into individual reeds. I think accordion reeds may be too big.
And is there any sort of equation I can use to calculate the airflow of various sized bellows and how much airflow is needed to get a reed to sound? I want to calculate the minimum siz
I honestly have no idea what sort of poll to make on this, but I really want to hear you guys' opinions on the news about the discovery of a biosignature on Mars!
What do you make of it? Do you think it's actual evidence of life on Mars? Does it have any impact on your views or values?
Personally I'm extremely excited. Nature's good, and now there's two natures? Even better!
