I need to fix my car, but I don't have the money. I need about $350, and I've been looking around the internet, but I don't know which sites are legitimate and which ones are scams.

Is there a legitimate organization that grants loans that small? Preferably one that doesn't charge super high interest.

I have a 2007 Kia Spectra and I'm at the 60,000 mile mark, but I can't afford to get the belt changed right away as has been suggested by the manufacturer. I usually drive it on the highway to get to and from work, and somewhat through town.

That said, I need to know whether or not I can continue to drive my car and what symptoms I should be on the lookout for. I really don't want my timing belt to snap, because it could really mess up my engine. However, I don't really have anyone else I can rely on (or a decent bus system) and I need to be able to get myself to and from work.

When I was a kid, I used to steal things from my preschool all the time. When my mom would ask me where I got these things, I'd make up lies about how my grandma or some other family member came to visit me and gave it to me or, my personal favorite, "I'm borrowing it".

I don't recall her ever acting like this was alarming up until I actually shoplifted a tiny book from a grocery store. That was the only time I remember her making me return the item and apologize.

Did your parents ever ignore any warning signs like this? What eventually happened?

tl;dr: When I was really young, I was a klepto and my mom didn't do anything about it until I shoplifted from a grocery store.
