When I started learning English I ended up switching my entire surrounding with English, right now at work I also use only English, I got to the point that I only use Spanish (my native language) at home and with the few native friends that I have.

For some reason I have now this strange feeling of feeling a bit “awkward” about my NL. My English is not even perfect, my NL is still intact, I have just stopped using it and feels really weird.

Has anyone experienced this feeling? Could someone start “disliking” or feeling foreign to its own native language?

Hello everyone! I’m currently learning my third language as a self-taught person and I’ve come to realize that I’ve been doing purely input learning and I sometimes forget very basic things (my guess is that I’m not using them that much), since I learn alone I also don’t have conversations so my speaking is not great.

Besides writing in a personal diary what do you guys usually do to practice output? I’m mostly looking for different activities that I can test as learning methods/strategies.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! To get straight to the point, I’m a software engineer that works remotely, I’ve travel to different countries last year, tried to request a residency permit in one of those countries but got it rejected.

I’m currently in my home country, but I don’t want to live here. My biggest problem is that I work remotely and for most countries, to request a residency permit they ask for a “reason”, usually “local work”. And I would like to have a stable life and not be jumping around after 3 months in each country.

Has anyone experienced this and managed to get a residency somewhere and live there? how did you manage to do it while keeping you remote work?

I’m mostly interested in Europ

Сәлем достар! I was thinking about creating a smartphone keyboard app to support the Göktürk (Orkhon or runes) script on mobile. But I was wondering how useful would that be.

Is it possible to adopt the Kazakh alphabet to it?

This is mostly just for fun.

I've seen a lot of videos of people living close to the forest and petting wild deers (like they come into their yars for food) or just petting foxes in big spaces.

I'd really like to live this experience but I'm not sure which location are those videos from.

I guess this should be kind of common in some place?

Does anyone know?

And a plus: how's been your experience with wild animals while traveling to another countries?

I haven't found a translating tool that's able to read the Kazakh language, this is not supported in Google Translate and Yandex Translate uses Google engine so it doesn't support it either.

This would be very useful because I can learn words from the internet but I'm not always sure where to put the accent or how they are pronounced.

Google Translate has a "Send Feedback" button where you can request features, etc. What if we all request this so they improve the Kazakh translation and maybe put effort on supporting audio too?

Usually companies prioritize features depending on the amount of requests. I've already sent mine.

Maybe this might sound silly, but usually good companies do care

Сәлем everyone! Does anyone know where could I participate of a chess tournament or just play with random people for fun or so in Almaty or Astana (adults)?

I've seen some schools on Instagram but I don't want to go to a school, also most seem for kids. I'm just a hobbyist that wants to play.

I'm probably gonna get hate but I guess I just want to express myself.

I came to Kazakhstan with the idea of learning Russian first, I also had the wrong assumption everyone here was a Russia ally.

After learning the about the history of Kazakhstan and finding how beautiful the culture is, I realize learning Russian wasn't "right", and I started learning Kazakh instead.

I'm a foreigner in Kazakhstan, so I should respect the culture, the country, etc.

I started learning Kazakh when I was in Poland, because of my Visa papers trip, I was missing Kazakhstan, so I started watching videos and stuff.

  1. There's no content for non-Russian speakers.
  • I ran out of videos pretty quick, right now

Hello, I'm learning the Kazakh language and I'm trying to find Kazakh movies that are in Kazakh language (Kazakh language + Kazakh subs would be great).

Could you recommend me some modern or good movies? Or platforms where I could find them. Some of the one that I found are in Russian language 🥲

Hello!!! This in my fourth day in the amazing city of Almaty 💙 with no Russian or Kazak at all.

I was wondering if there's any English/Spanish speakers here who would like to hung out, go to bars at night, etc. I'm M30 if that helps(?

I'll take language classes but it will take me sometime to properly learn Russian to communicate. As for now I learned the word пакет to go to the supermarket 😅

Hi! I'm from South America, Argentina and I'd like to move to Kazakhstan, I'm still learning Russian and I'm still pretty bad at it, but I'd like to go there even with a broken Russian.

I see on the government website I need to prove solvency if I'd like to request for a residence permit and this considers being able to buy a house if I'm not mistaken. How can I verify this information? Know how much money I need? Where should I have this money?

Had anyone gone through this experience?

I work remotely by the way, so I would like to move and keep working remotely there.
