Humor

I have a quick story I’d like to share that some of you may find humorous.

My son is verbally gifted, reads a few letter grades above his level, understands, and uses those big words in that big brain of his. It’s great. But it also gives his ample words to communicate his displeasure with me or his mother’s actions if he finds them unfair, such as no desert if he doesn’t eat his dinner. And he’s only 6.

But let’s take a step back in time to some of the earliest burns my son has ever given me. Before he could speak.

My wife and I started him on some basic baby sign language when he was a baby. Things like “hungry,” “more,” and “all done.” I’m sure that helped him improve his communication

TW: potential self-harm, abuse.

Hi all.

Context: my family of origin is quite difficult to be around. They're so volatile. Abusive mother with BPD (borderline personality disorder), younger brother with bipolar disorder and BPD, sisters with explosive reactions that escalate things, a brother-in-law that is a self-reported/proclaimed "sociopath," and that's just the half of it. We're all adults with the youngest sibling being about 30. I moved 1300 miles away a long time ago to have a life outside of their dysfunction, for my career, and a family I was creating in a new state. I feel like I'm the one "that got away" - survivor's guilt is something I've experienced throughout my

My wife and I have two vehicles: the nice one, and the 2000 Jeep Cherokee.

We use the nice one for most driving; better mileage, working heat and AC, and actually steers like a car instead of handling like a filing cabinet on wheels.

So the reusable grocery bags live in the nice car, since we live in a “pay for bags” state. We usually order through the app and have everything brought out to our parking spot. No need to go inside and make impulsive buys, just pop the trunk and an employee brings the groceries out and loads them into the bags we bring.

Well, our routine broke this week and I ended up doing the grocery run in the Jeep. I was distracted, rushed, and running on autopilot. It

Hello all, I'm looking for some guidance and/or insight into other factors I may not be seeing - factors that could potentially help me figure out how to navigate this situation.

A tenant of mine has been a month late for rent for the past few months, they're currently a month behind, and are about to be a second month behind (so that's two months worth of rent my wife and I don't have.) The property management company is asking me if I would like to post the eviction notice. If I were to base a decision on just that information, then yes, evict.

However, it's not so simple. They have been our tenants for 12 years, have always paid (though they're almost always late and this is the late

Good morning all,

Background: I'm a therapist and have been practicing for a few years now. But I've always been growth-oriented and will be till the day I die. I see individuals and couples (no families, no kids under 17), and my main demographic is with adults with some form of neurodivergence going on (ADHD, ASD).

I have recently been realizing a phenomenon that I wonder if anyone else notices, whether it be with their clients or their own life. And I will use myself as an example here:

My wife is wonderful in many ways, but she's also incredibly prideful, doesn't like to apologize (she has legitimately apologized less than 10 times in 15 years of marriage), and it is exhausting for me

Hello all,

TL;DR: Is there anything a former supervisor can do to impede my chances of being approved by DORA (in CO)? What are the risks of including one biased supervisor on my paperwork?

I have a dilemma I hope you can help me navigate. I am a pre-licensure candidate in CO and I have more than my required amount for licensure. Hooray! But there's a problem.

Long story short, my first supervisor was a jerk, constantly misinterpreted and misrepresented what I was saying and doing. It is a long, painful story that I won't bore you with. But let's just say that he was biased against me for issues that are likely related to my autism diagnosis (I was diagnosed *after* I st

Greetings all,

I had a client I saw weekly for couples counseling for about 6 months. We met the goals for therapy, which was to help identify if the relationship was going to progress or terminate. It ended. The three of us for another 1 month or so to help them maintain their friendship after the end of the romantic relationship.

One of the couples requested that I remain as their therapist for individual counseling after we terminated couples treatment. I informed them that if they wanted to do that, we’d have to wait a while to provide some distance to couples counseling.

6 months later (which is this week), they reached back out asking if we could begin individual therapy. We had a g

Looking for ADA resources

Resources :karma:

Good morning all,

A client of mine has requested I write them an ADA letter for their employer. I haven't done one of these yet, and I'm hoping to gather a list of resources to help me with this. Resources such as a template, a list of potential reasonable accommodations per each diagnosis, etc.

Anything helps.

Thanks!

I’m confused and feel like I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m a pre-licensure candidate nearing the final lap before license. My supervisor says that I have fantastic instincts. I have been in many situations where I just…feel something that is difficult to explain, and I abandon logic and go with my feeling. And then I’m right. Every time so far. And I hate it. I’m confused because I can’t explain it.

Some background info. I’m late 30s, recently diagnosed with ASD, and was diagnosed with ADHD around 30. For part of my ASD assessment, I scored in the 95th percentile in identifying problems, seeing the solutions, and general ability index. My IQ was just shy of the “gifted” range. Because of m

Greetings fellow humans. I have recently become in possession of an ASD diagnosis. *And there was much rejoicing. Yay.*

Is there a list of resources I can get to help me navigate all of this? I'm a fan of audiobooks, primarily. I listened to 5 books in the last two weeks (okay, sure, 4 of them were my special interest, fantasy genre), but one of them was autism related. I'm not at all opposed to heavier stuff too, things more clinical in nature, research/evidenced-based stuff.

It would be nice if I were given a "You are Autistic Welcome Basket." I may have to make one of those for myself to celebrate taking a big step forward in understanding myself better.

I also have ADHD, so there'

Hello lovely people,

I’m about to be fully, independently licensed as a psychotherapist soon. Hooray. But also, I want more money. I’m not opposed to going back to school for additional degrees, earn additional licensures, etc. In fact, it’s probably my preference. I’ve got the brain of a problem solver, systems thinking, etc. For example, my favorite class in grad school was psychopharmacology and neurobiological functioning in counseling. My favorite demographics are adults with ADHD and/or autism. I love reading books that have a strong foundation in clinical research. And I love to help people.

As much as I truly do love being a psychotherapist, I don’t think it is enough for me. I wan

Hello all!

I would love some suggestions for where I should check out to possibly live and work (or at the very least, first visit to see if it feels right.)

Here’s a bit about me: I’m a clinical psychologist, I have no problem working remotely, I prefer to be near or in the mountains, or at least right outside a flock of sheep. I’ll ultimately go where needed for work, but I prefer that my home is rather tranquil and quiet. I have a wife and 4 year old son. I currently live in another country in the mountains, so a mountain life is perfectly fine.

Also, are there typically certain websites that I can explore that have various jobs posted across NZ?

I’m considering exploring a remote wo

Hello all.

I’m tired. I’ve been tired for a while now, having 30-40 clients on my schedule per week (with ~80% showing). I’m a pre-licensure candidate working toward my hours and trying to get them as fast as I can to be fully licensed. But it’s slow, and I need the money and freedom that a licensure can help with.

I haven’t taken time off until this week for Christmas with my wife and son. We were going to go to her parents in another state, but the drive would have been 16 hours - just to see them for a single day, then drive 16 hours back home. We made the call to cancel the trip because…I’m just tired.

But then I got Covid the first day of my week off. I’m still sick, I’m still tired

I’ve been prescribed generic Adderall for the better part of 7 years. The effects on me are quite inconsistent. All are amphetamine-dextramphetamine, 10mg XR. I typically take the meds consistently with the same 15 minute window me in the morning.

The manufacturers change month to month. Fortunately for me, my pharmacy writes down my manufacturer because of my problem: I get wildly inconsistent results from my meds. Some are okay, some mixed with green tea is the best version of myself I’ve ever experienced. Some are mehhhhhh, and some destroy me by 4:38pm and I’m dead, incapable of walking straight as I collapse on my bed and have to cancel the rest of my clients for the day. (Psychothera
