Will Biden opt for an open convention by releasing his delegates? This would mean a slap in the face of Harris, who would seem the natural choice. Passing over the nations first woman of colour is bad optics for the democrats, but she doesn't poll much better where it is needed. An open convention might deliver a candidate with better appeal, but is the potential blood bath of democratic infighting at an open convention worth it? (I'd argue yes at this point).

But Biden may also be tempted to hand over the reigns to Kamala, minimize party fuss and get the campaign back on track. One would imagine that this is what Harris' team is lobbying for behind closed doors. Plus she has the added bene

No.

I understand the allure of the singularity. The promise of technical marvels beyond our wildest dreams. A utopian world lurking just beyond the exponential curve.

I too daydream of such a heaven-like future.

But my fantasies do not constitute evidence and the fact is we have no idea what will happen if we hit that 'singularity button'.

Where we exist right now, is a tiny slither of time. Nestled between humanities first contact with the notion of exponential digital intellectual growth and the day it actually occurs.

It is almost certainly impossible to mitigate all risk in such an endeavour. We are wrestling with the stuff of gods.

However, there are certain steps we can take befo

There are many bots active in this subreddit. Mostly trying to spam narratives and shape public opinion. We knew about this sort of thing already.

However, in the recent TikTok thread discussing Drake's partial ownership of a Russian bot account company named Omerta Creative, there is a massive spike in bot activity.

The bots are purposefully spamming the private information of people involved with Omerta Creative. This is purposeful doxing, being done here in the subreddit, with the hopes that the moderators do not effectively remove it and the Reddit admins have to step in by deleting the threads or by shutting down the subreddit.

Here is a spam dox comment I have seen multiple times:

At present there are many different institutions working on AI. The rate of development has been rapid and we have come a long way in what feels like a short period of time.

The question of how we keep AI aligned with humanity is one we haven’t yet cracked, but before we even get to that issue, we must face the problem of what instructions we give to AI and what institutions get to give them out.

I have no reason to doubt that the majority of the companies working on AI like OpenAI, Meta and Google are doing so in good faith. That they really are trying to build intelligences that will be useful to society as a whole.

However I can’t help but wonder at what point in time we determine the

Obviously we have no concrete evidence to suggest that the US military industrial complex and or intelligence apparatus are massively ahead in AI development.

That being said there are a few clues, such as the TOP500 List of super computers, which shows that the US government is operating a super computer with a peak performance of 1,194 exaflops.

An exaflop reflecting roughly the same level of compute as the human brain.

There are also other supercomputers in development, specifically Aurora, a combined effort between the department

In medicine, triage is a process by which medical attention is allocated to those who need it most. During times of emergency and disaster, triage keeps the most grievously injured patients alive, while allowing those with less severe injuries to wait until further assistance arrives.

The conscious decision to refrain from depleting limited medical resources on things like broken limbs, so that the individual bleeding out is more likely to survive.

The emergence of Artificial General Intelligence into the world can be viewed through a similar lens.

A tidal wave of change, bringing with it a host of consequences that must be addressed effectively if we are to stand any chance of making it
