So, just to be clear, I sent this to the mods at the same time they opened up mod apps. It's clear they've chosen to go another way, but I put a lot of work into this so I wanted to share.

I had to leave the team because ultimately I was more of a liability than an asset due to my personal failings and relationship drama. If I were still on the team, there’s no way I would have the headspace to put this template together, so I hope that the team doesn’t feel like I am being hypocritical by presenting it as a lay-user. Of course truth policing, as in "Um this is clearly fake," is very harmful in a support space and should not be allowed. But I've been thinking a lot today about fake posters etc etc due to the current issue, and I thought back to what it was like when I was posting about my own MIL (back before the truth policing rule was so stringently enforced) and I actually found it very helpful when users would point out inconsistencies in my posts. You don't know what you don't know, basically, and I was dealing with circumstances I'd never experienced before, so I wasn't noticing every time things didn't add up.

For those of you who remember me, my in-laws are the Baboons. Y'all also might remember that I used to talk about my family problems with a hefty dose of humor. I just don't have it in me anymore. I haven't felt annoyed, or angry for a long time. I'm just... tired.

Anyways, FIL is now divorced from the Balloon Baboon and was in a long-term relationship with a man even before the divorce, which now continues. FIL was a victim of abuse, but he's also an abuser. It's complicated.

But what isn't complicated is that he is a narcissist and is still playing by the old rulebook when it comes to how to interact with his son, my husband. We went NC a while back because FIL acted like a royal ass:

I can't believe this needs to be said, but apparently it does.

Q: Why was this sticky created?

A: This sticky was created because we have had a recent influx of new users coming from clickbait sites who seem to be under the illusion that it's okay to contact users and make posts requesting to adopt unwanted children.

Q: Why doesn't the mod team contact the authorities directly?

A: Mods are not able to view user IP addresses like Reddit admins can, so Reddit admins are the only ones who can provide a report to the appropriate authorities directing them to the offending party's real identity.

Q: Should I contact the authorities if I come across potential human trafficking?

A year ago today, my and DH's world began to crash down around us. Here's a recap of what happened on February 14th, 2018:

Every year, Balloon Baboon goes around town setting up restaurants with balloons for the holidays. Her number of customers has slowly waned over the years, and now Valentine's Day is the only holiday for which she still has balloon customers. Since we cannot protect users from content poaching, we are instituting a new, optional, entirely voluntary countermeasure for anyone who feels the need to delete their account. Prior to deleting your account, please modmail us to tell us so, and provide us with a phrase or password, akin to how we teach children to only go with adults who know the family password. This way, if you come back or if your story is stolen, and you can provide us with that password along with your modmail, we will be able to implicitly trust that your new account is owned by the same person who originally owned the account through which the stories were posted.

jThe mod team attempted to contact Reddit admins on behalf of both parties this issue has affected, and Reddit admins got back to us very quickly, though only to say that they can only assist those directly affected by the issue. However, the admins appear to not have gotten back to either user yet. Despite that, we have reached a conclusion that everyone on the team feels appropriate.

We are extremely limited in our scope of authority as mods of a subreddit. We have nowhere near the power or resources that admins do. And also, per our truth policing policy, we cannot and will not just take someone's word on another user without irrefutable proof. The mod team had to do extensive digging in

My own family is doing great - my grandparents' insurance did right by them and they have a gorgeous new RV, my mom is working at a new location for the same company and was given a pay bump, and my dad is keeping on keeping on. I'm back to modding after taking a sabbatical and am slowly getting back into all the responsibilities I once held. Hey y'all, how are you? Given that the holidays are coming up, the JustNoSO team has decided to bring on two additional mods so that we can all survive this dreaded and wonderful season. So please welcome our two new mods, u/Libida and u/VorikDrakon! They are both familiar faces/usernames in the JustNo family of subs. They both have big hearts and level heads, and I'm very grateful they've agreed to help maintain this support space.

So during modgate a lot of users voiced concerns that mods were continuing to work despite experiencing compassion fatigue or are too stressed by their own lives to be an effective mod.

Part of the reason why most mods do not share their personal lives with the community is trolls, plain and simple. Any time someone looking for a fight, looking to abuse users of this sub, or to just be assholes comes around, the mods deal with them.
