Hi,

My work is looking at replacing my current laptop (GTX1080) as it starts to struggle with some heavy 3D.

Ideally:

- laptop should last about 5-6 years, boss OK with a 5090 (another laptop has a 4090 that works great, so when I said a 5080 would not be as great...). Must have HDMI, but I think they all still have.

- screen 17" or 18", QHD (4K can be but none of our external monitors are 4K),

- no need high capacity SSD (everything is online, current SSD uses is about 600Gb after 4 years and plenty of software trials), speed is a more important factor,

- 32Gb memory minimum (currently using up to 25Gb max),

- most software are single core use

- good microphone and speakers a

Hi,

My wife's Jazz windows weather strips are all gone and she now have random small water ingress from there. Genuine one here in Australia are minimum $150 so a bit expensive for such an old car and looking for cheaper alternative.

Found this on ebay (several sellers, just put a random one):

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/395243936522?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=tknezqe6sjs&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=KBeTikgCR-2&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Would they work and if yes, would they be OK for 2-3 years? Might chan

Hi,

I'm in Australia and was contacted by a company to quote them for sub-contracting me some of their jobs. I would both work from home and in their office, as well as provide my own laptop with Outlook, Office and CAD software. Work would be around 16h/w on average.

Back when I was doing that in France, the norm was to provide the client an itemized cost, for ex. engineer@100$/h, laptop with [email protected]$/h, CAD software@10$/h....

Do I do the same here, is it the norm or do you usually just give 1 total price like $112.5/h?

Thanks!

Hi,

Just got an Everest with the tow hitch but no tow ball...

I don't plan on towing a lot, maybe 2-3 times a year, usually a project car or something similar, not going off-road.

Is there any difference between the cheap tow ball or the more expensive one in my case? Tow ball will mostly be inside car when not in use.

thanks.

Hi,

Looking at buying a Ford Everest, with my budget I can get a Platinum (or maybe Sport not sure yet) around 2020-22 with less than 60000km.

Test drove one, liked it (better than Prado to me).

Before committing to about $60k, are they good cars? Can't seem to find much bad about them.

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm used to Autocad and recently switched to BricsCAD. I draw in color, using the main color only with sometimes some additional transparency.

Now, I print my drawings either monochrome or greyscale, never had an issue with Autocad, but I can't seem to be able to print monochrome. I copied the monochrome file from autocad but it's still in color.

Does anyone have a monochrome and greyscale plot style table that really prints monochrome and greyscale?

Thanks!

Hi,

Got a laptop with said processor and for the past few days, CPU fans were always on and noisy. I initially thought about a fan issue so I cleaned them but they're still on. Then I noticed at idle, the CPU speed is always at 3.2-4.1 Ghz, loaded at 2-5%.

I had a similar issue many years ago and used Throttlestop with success. Now ThrottleStop doesn't support this CPU.

I downloaded AMD Ryzen Master that also doesn't support this CPU !

Any idea which software I can use ?

Thanks

For example, I often use layiso to work on specific items, so I just type "layi" and it autofills as LAYISO.

When I'm done, I type "layu" and it brings LAYULK and LAYUNISO but I never use LAYULK...

Is there a way to remove LAYULK from the autofill so that it's easier for me?

Note: I'm still on the trial version of Bricscad, still a lot to learn!

2021-2022 Outback

Buying and Selling Cars

Hi,

so after being disapointed with the Fortuner, I'm likely going back with Subaru, nearly sure an Outback (currently a Forester but too short to sleep comfortably inside).

We're looking at 21-22 outback as they are within our budget.

Even if the car is recent, anything in particulat to look for / avoid (apart from Diesel)?

Cheers

2018-21 Fortuner - goods and bads

Buying and Selling Cars

Hi,

Looking at buying a 2018-21 Fortuner. Will replace my Forester as a daily and will be used for weekend escape and camping (we usually sleep in the car, hence the need for a big one).

We gonna test drive one this weekend but before that, I'd like to hear some real life feedback on it and anything I should look for on the car.

Thanks !

Hi,

Last weekend, my wife and her friend were driving a 2010 Forester Auto. At one point, after leaving a car space, her friend (driver) noticed the boot wasn't fully locked and went out to close it properly (still in the parking lot), all while the car was still in drive "D". My wife then put the transmission into P while the car was still moving and told me the transmission went "click click click click" very fast (her words) and the car stopped.

Could she have damaged the transmission pin that keeps it in P?

Would there be any damage to the transmission?

Thanks

G'Day,

Long time reader, freshly joined.

I've always like mechanic and would have been my career had I failed engineering. Now for the past few months, I really want to purchase a small garage - general mechanic. I checked quickly and some can be at 50-150k$ (in Melbourne area), which I could afford without finance. Now they are usually a 1 owner mechanic that takes care of everything, with 1-3 lifts, some with an additional mechanic. From a quick contact, they would do 7-10k a week in income, I don't have more financial data yet. To have one with 2-3 mechanic, 3-5 lifts... is at minima 300k$ and I would need finance.

I'm not a mechanic, just an average DIY, limited by my small 1 car gara
