Hello r/AskAstrophotography,

I'm going to metaphorically write a novel here, so I'm going to apologize for the length in advance.

I'm a visual astronomy guy, and I've been living and working above the arctic circle for the past year. I'm likely to be here for a few more years. During the winter, less than twenty minutes on skidoo away from the hamlet lights, I have Bortle 1 skies (when the Moon or aurorae aren't getting in the way). On some of the crispest winter nights, I have impeccable seeing as well.

As incredible as these skies are to look at, I'd like to move into astrophotography to see if I can't really take advantage of the conditions. My first goal is to work my way through ma

Star Trek has a history of being credited for predicting future technologies. The TOS communicator predicts the cellphone, the tricorder predicting the smartphone, PADDs predicting tablets, and many more as countless articles and even r/DaystromInstitute posts have pointed out.

I’d like to add one more to the list. Holodecks. Not the photons and forcefield space wizardry that may never come to pass due to the pesky physical laws of our universe, but the computation engine that drives them.

While I’m sure most readers here will have a passing familiarity with the concept of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Llama, and Gemini, and more than a few of you will be conversant in the tec

Hey folks,

All prices in CAD.

I'm the proud owner of a venerable older PC that I built years ago centered around an i7 2600k. She overclocked super well and was paired with a GTX 690. A couple months ago I decided to modernize my video card as SLI was getting a little frustrating to use and 4GB of VRAM wasn't meeting my needs. I ended up picking up an RX580 8GB. I currently game in 1080p144Hz or I try. I believe that I'm limited by my CPU in most of my games, as the frame rate barely changes as I ramp up settings unless I really ramp up supersampling.

My major games are heavily modded Skyrim SE, modded Fallout 4, Overwatch, Rimworld, FFXIV, Star Citizen, Diablo 3 and, Age of Wonders III.

I've recently been reviewing the episodes: "In the Pale Moonlight", "Inquisition", "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges", and "Extreme Measures". In those episodes, I've seen what I believe are hints that Captain Sisko is either: working for or a sympathizer with Section 31. Captain Sisko has motive, opportunity, contacts and, most importantly, he pushed Dr. Bashir into working with Luther Sloan at every opportunity.

I believe that in "In the Pale Moonlight" Captain Sisko is setting into motion a Section 31 plan to bring the Romulans into the Dominion War. Not only is he willing to commit acts that would be anathema to a Starfleet officer, but he has people at Starfleet Command covering his ass in
