I have been working as a Financial Aid Counselor for almost 2 years now. Prior to this I have had over 8 years of customer service experience. I was recently promoted (in November) to a senior position that came with a pay raise, however I was not given the listed salary posted in the job description when I applied.
The description itself asked for a minimum of 2 years of experience, but my director told me to apply regardless because she felt I was ready. I had 11 months of experience at the time. I got the job, obviously, and I was only given the minimum salary on the salary structure for the location I work. I assumed this was due to the experience difference.
