Assumption: 2024’s offense is at least a little better than 2023’s. We have upgraded at QB. We have upgraded the coaching. We have probably upgraded at WR. TE is about the same. O-line is still very bad but probably not worse than last year.

So, let’s look at last year’s games and see what might have gone differently with a slightly better offense. We had a very bad record, but let’s see how close it was to good.

  • Week 1: Eagles
    • The Eagles were coming off of a 14-win season, a Super Bowl appearance, and still had a bunch of stars on both sides of the ball. Could hardly ask for a harder start to the season.
    • The Patriots were down by 5 with the ball with 3:28 to go, but after a sa

Here's the spreadsheet

  • I couldn't find this comprehensive analysis, so I did it myself.
  • Rams and 49ers play four teams coming off their byes, so they're the worst off (-21 and -20 totals)
  • Jets, Commanders, Bears all have a total of 12 extra days of rest over their opponents
  • Bears are the only team that play zero games with less rest than their opponent. Falcons are the only team that play zero games with more rest than their opponent

I'll be visiting Chicago for next week's Patriots vs Bears Monday Night Football. Any advice on a friendly bar to watch the game? Some searching indicates Tripoli Tap might be a good location, is that true? Any other tips?

My last few homebrew batches have been undrinkable: so sour and bitter that you can hardly taste anything else, even when ice cold. Here's my typical (all-grain BIAB-ish) process:

  • I have been buying all-grain pre-milled kits from a couple of different places, most often More Beer!
  • Calculate mash water volume and strike temp and use tap water (which tastes good to me, but I've never tested it)
  • Mash in a large nylon bag for 60 minutes
  • Pull the bag out, and rest it in a very large colander that I place on top of the pot to drain while I bring the water to a boil (no mashout, no sparge)
  • Boil for 60 minutes, follow the hop schedule, sometimes th

I have this memory that isn't solid enough to be able to find evidence for, but is solid enough that I can't convince myself it's fake. Someone help me out.

  • Close game, defense forces a 4th down, opponent goes for it
  • Gunslinger QB throws deep
  • Someone on the secondary (McCourty?) intercepts it near the sideline (costing the offense ~30 yards of field position)
  • Belichick challenges the catch by his own defender
  • Challenge is unsuccessful

Did this really happen? Like, in the last 3 years, probably?
