Recently got matched with a coop from the portal (yayy) but what are the next steps? This is a first time for me so I have no idea what to expect. To the people who have done this process before how does it work? When should I be expecting to be contacted

I’m in my third year of university looking to get research experience so I’ve been starting to cold email professors but it genuinely feels like a humiliation ritual. Tell me why I literally cry every time I get a rejection because it’s just so humiliating. The other day I literally emailed a professor and a minute later they responsed with a one liner saying that they’re retired. I was genuinely so embarrassed I immediately started tearing up. Im going to keep doing it even though it’s hard but please tell me it gets easier because I’ve literally never felt so humiliated in my life

Just cold emailed a professor to ask for research experience, they said they weren’t taking any students so I followed up to ask if they know anyone else who is and they said no so I genuinely cried after that. Trying to get research experience is genuinely a humiliation ritual and yes I’m going to try again even though it sucks but I could genuinely use some words of the wise here. Is this just a rite of passage? Like is it normal to feel this anxious about this and does it eventually get easier? Do profs think you’re being annoying when you send them these emails or am I overthinking?

Hi everyone I’m going into my 3rd year this fall and I lowkey feel so behind because I’ve been checking LinkedIn and seeing what other people in similar programs/years have been doing and omg everyone is so locked in but me. Like tell me why everyone and their mom has a research assistant position at the Ottawa hospital and has helped discover a new groundbreaking organelle.

Anyway I really need to lock in this year, I’m planning on cold emailing profs and maybe asking my own profs for research related volunteering and/or coop placements for the winter term (I will get kicked out of coop if I don’t secure a placement this time around so I’m kinda freaking out about that😅)

I just wanted to

Asynchronous classes without lectures should genuinely be illegal because tell me why I am paying the same for a class where my prof shows up every day and goes out of her way to explain the content clearly to her students than I am for someone who literally just holds appointment only office hours and posts modules on brightspace. I am completely fine with asynchronous classes with recorded lectures in fact I actually love this format but without lectures is ridiculous. For one of my asynchronous classes, my professor literally just has us read the textbook and that’s it. I can’t believe this is even allowed it’s laziness on another level

I’ve got one class at the med school campus this fall semester along with some other classes on the main campus in the same day. I have never done this before. To anyone who has ever made this commute, approximately how long does it typically take? I know that there are some shuttles that travel between the main campus and the med campus but I honestly have no idea how those work. Does the shuttle save you a lot of time compared to regular oc transpo?? Is the commute normally a pain in the butt? I’m kinda scared

After getting rejected over 300 internships, jobs, co-ops and fucking volunteer positions, my mental health genuinely cannot take this shit anymore. I want to kill myself and this fucking "other candidate". People might think I’m crazy for saying this but guess what drove me to this point. People don’t even want my free labor for fucks sake am I really that worthless.

Tell me why there are literally 0 available seats for BCH2333 across all sections for me as a health science student. I wanted to take this course as an elective because even though it’s not technically required for my program, I’m likely going to need it to apply for postgraduate studies. I have taken both of the prerequisites too (orgo 1 and 2) that I pretty much only took just so that I could take biochem. I know that this course is a super popular choice among health science students so I genuinely don’t understand why there isn’t a single seat available. Like I get that science students should get priority but seriously?? 0 seats?? This is absolutely crazy.

Tell me why my prof spent over an hour of our first lecture yapping about how anti racist, pro DEI, pro lgbtq, pro feminist, pro indigenous they are, you name it. Deadass started apologizing to us for having white ancestors. And like i’m not against any of those things but like it gets to a point. It’s always the white professors too in my experience and as a gay woman of color myself, I’m actually so tired. Like you don’t need to prove yourself to us, we get it, you’re woke. I’m woke too but it gets to a point where it feels extremely performative. Like please stfu and teach us.
