This obviously isn't the fix for every issue. And oftentimes players are reluctant to try something else. But more often than not the problems that I see posted here can be easily fixed by switching to another D&D system.

  • Why is combat taking too long?
  • How do I cope with too many players?
  • How do I get my players to roleplay more?
  • How do I make exploration more interesting?
  • How do I get my players to pay attention?
  • How do I do a low magic campaign?
  • How do I make my players less OP?
  • How do I balance my encounters?
  • How do I get my players to learn their characters?
  • How can I better pace my sessions?
  • How can I reduce my prep time?
  • How can I stop my players being rules la

Let's say you make a comment. That comment then gets several comments from different people. So now you may have 5 different discussions going. That's fine and should be encouraged.

But fairly often I'll encounter a user who feels it necessary to engage with me on most if not all of those threads. In my notifications it'll show up as 5 new comments, all from the same user and within a short period of succession.

It's always feels like they're intentionally spamming me instead of engaging me in a singular good faith discussion. I've reached the point where I just flat out block those users as soon as I see that happening.

Does anyone else experience this? It's common enough from what I've

I'm a bit ambivalent on Elon Musk. I think he's a bit of a snake oil salesman on Tesla and think he's a hypocrite on free speech. But I do respect other things he does like SpaceX and Starlink.

During this past election, there was a lot of rhetoric around Trump surrounding himself with billionaires, particularly folks like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel. But the Democrats arguably have more billionaire and multimillionaire backers yet get less flak for it.

Then this whole uproar over Musk considering buying Hasbro to "save D&D". For context, most of the community loathes Hasbro and think they're just greedy profiteers. But this news with Elon Musk they seemed to hate it even more. So that got m

Trigger warning for sexual violence and violence against children

I had a bit of a revelation awhile ago on the fundamental purpose of government and whether outlawing abortion falls under its purview.

I won't bore you with those details but does bring to light an interesting observation.

People who claim abortion is murder certainly do not act as if it was murder.

If there was someone murdering children down the street from you, maybe not all of us but certainly some of us would go out of our way to stop it, using violence if necessary.

Even if someone wasn't actually murdering children but molesting them instead, I'd say the same number of people would go stop it, possibly with vi

You know how when you open one of those WotC published campaigns for 5e and it's just page after page of block text, with most of the critical pieces of information hidden within it somewhere? And how great that is for DMs to sift through at the table as their players swipe through their phones?

Yeah, has there been any good 3rd party campaign modules that cut out all that bloat and present the information in a quick and intuitive way? Something that uses more bulletpoint lists (like how DMs actually prep) than blocks of texts? Because if there is I would really like to know.

I've been running a lot of one page dungeons lately and was wondering "why don't they design campaign modules like

So it looks like I was right. It was a Trump landslide. Even more so than I thought possible.

Not that I particularly want to gloat or anything but all indications told me that Trump was a sure-win.

I came to this conclusion back when Biden stepped down and they, for whatever reason, decided to crown Kamala Harris as their nominee. Possibly the weakest candidate to ever run at the top of a major party ticket.

For a moment I thought "no, they couldn't be doing that! Surely, there are far better candidates amongst the party senators and governors."

But everyone fell into lock-step behind someone who failed miserably in the 2020 primary, more

Is using a flashback sequence too railroady?

Need Advice: Encounters & Adventures

So I have this idea for an adventure for my upcoming session. It's a murder mystery which entangles the party. The sequence of events is as follows:

Party discovers body of victim only moments after the killer flees.

The town guard arrests the party.

The party appears before the local lord and argues their case.

Local lord assumes they're guilty but gives them leave to prove their innocence, but only one day to do so.

The party can examine the body, talk with the victims friends and associates, and search his residence for any clues.

Eventually the clues will lead the party to the local church where they find a secret entrance into the crypts beneath and unravel the murder mystery.

What's going on here? My theory

Any reasonable person would say in a close election a candidate would spend every day in the critical swing states getting out the vote.

Texas will surely go for Trump in this election, however. So why is Harris spending value time there?

Well, the race between Ted Cruz and Allred is very, very close. The Democrats want to flip senate seats.

But that in theory is at the expense of losing the presidential election. Unless the Democrats believe that election has already been decided (and not in their favor).

I have been suspicious that something more was going on after Kamala was unanimously crowned as her party's nominee. From everything we knew up until t

Unfortunately I don't care for most of the adventures in the published module. Most aren't really that horrifying, which is a bit strange for a supposedly horror campaign.

I've found a few good alternative adventures for Dougan's Hole and Good Mead and have made my own homebrew for Bremen and Lonelywood.

Just looking for other thematic, truly scary adventures for Ten-Towns (Ch1) and Icewind Dale (Ch2).

P.S. Nothing to do with the Duergar please. I'm removing them from my campaign.

I hear this often from Democrats. But it's not really explained.

At the surface, it suggests that if Donald Trump wins the election, that the United States could very well no longer hold elections in the future. Is this what you mean?

If so, could you play out that scenario for me? I really want to understand how plausible it is.

Now my two cents... by "democracy" I think what is meant is that the established institutions of our government and supporting ecosystem of private institutions would be irrevocably changed.

But if the will of the people is to change those institutions, is that not democracy?

I think it's an example of intentionally using one word to mean something entirely di

Recently I've switched from 5e over to Shadowdark and have managed to bring a whole slew of players with me.

So far I've just been doing short dungeon crawl adventures for various groups but am eager to do a longer campaign.

The two official 5e modules that I gravitate towards are Curse of Strahd and Rime of the Frostmaiden, and between the two I think the most I can offer is with a campaign set in Icewind Dale (use to live in Alaska after all).

I plan on heavily modifying the setting and quests, and adventures, making it more lower magic, grittier, and horror infused.

I plan on running each session as an open table for whoever wants to roll up a character and join. Here is where I proba

The founding fathers were well aware of the dangers of concentrating power in the hands of one person. This leads down the road of tyranny, even if the masses rejoice at their Dear Leader taking power. History has proven this time and time again.

I think most of us think that the Electoral College is not great. But most comprises aren't. The Electoral College is a compromise between those who wanted a direct popular vote for president and those who wanted Congress to choose the president.

But given how states are allowed to distribute their electoral votes as they see fit, this has led to 48 out of 50 states choosing a "winner-take-all" system instead of dividing up their electors proporti
