Hey HVAC people,

I bought a house in another state and the furnace and AC is from 2005 using R-22. Heat exchanger and panel were replaced in 2020.

I have about 40k in critical repairs I need to do including the roof, sewage lining, and possibly the HVAC system. Trying to be smart about each one so I need your help with HVAC advice.

Here's the thing:

  1. I have 3 HVAC companies scheduled next week when I'm out there to get estimates from.

  2. I'm concerned with prices going up due to tariffs and calling trying to get some quotes by providing them pictures of the existing system and the inspection report I have.

  3. One of the companies gave me an estimate and said they have two 410A

We just bought a house in Hoffman Estates and was in a bidding war with 7 other people. That's crazy. I'm moving from Phoenix and selling my house was the opposite. Sat for several weeks before our first offer came and we jumped on it.

I wonder if there's a big migration to Illinois happening. Excited to officially join the Burbs!

Hey All,

My husband and I want to get a bed and breakfast mid March. Looking for a really neat older home, great food, fireplace, garden grounds etc. I know it might be cold /snowy. That's fine :)

Would be nice to be close to a neat downtown area.

I'm a millennial lady moving to Schaumburg with my husband and 12 year old daughter. We are moving to be in a more like-minded, inclusive community and Schaumburg seemed to be a good melting pot with easy access to the city.

I'm in tech (product), and my husband is a teacher.

I always kept to myself working remotely from home and overall don't make many new friends as an adult. I'd like to change that.

I think a big thing missing is community and staying grounded. I want to know who my neighbors are and for them to know me. I have been wanting that more and more as the years go by.

Wondering if anyone would be interested in or know of an existing group that does stuff like:

Hey guys,

I have Cigna insurance that does not cover Wegovy. When the system processes it at the pharmacy it comes back as "covered" with zero discount so the coupon won't work and it's still 1500.

The work around was to process it as cash and pay $650.

As of 2025 the coupon doesn't allow that and has to be ran through insurance.

So I call Cigna and they confirm I'm not covered and say it's the pharmacy issues causing it.

All pharmacy's are getting this issue (Costco, Walgreens, cvs)

How is it that I have no options and am penalized for having insurance that covers nothing?

Help. Crying.

Road clear?

Question/Comment

Hey, traveling around the NW suburbs. From Arizona.

How well do they keep the roads cleared/de-iced.

Haven't driven here in the winters before (drove other places with snow but roads were pretty good)

Hey All,

I'm buying a house early next year and my realtor said that the law changed but wasn't super clear as to... how it changed. Tried googling it but was curious what this community thinks.

  1. What changed and is this actually changing the way people are paying realtors already or are people taking the traditional approach to commission?

  2. My realtor gave the option of 2.5% OR a flat fee agreed upon. Is this normal? Why would I do one or the other?

I don't feel confident in NOT using a realtor because we are moving to a state we've never lived in before and really do need guidance. House is expected to be between 450-550k 25% down 15 year (not sure if any of that matters).

I have had almost no side effects on Wegovy and am 50 lbs down on 1.7.

For lunch I had a part of a cheese spread with like a cheese ball and a chunk of some fancy cheese.

Holy shit I'm in hell. Cramping, diarrhea, and hours later general stomach discomfort.

Never eating cheese again 🤢

We are visiting Schaumburg for New Years 1/1 and 1/2.

It's me my husband and my 12 yo daughter.

Any cool events going on? Willing to drive 30 min.

We are moving there in May and just checking out the vibes.

Looking for houses in the suburbs and I've never seen so many above ground pools in my life.

They look... bad. And cheap. Like a trailer in your yard.

Some have these glorious decks built around these low quality looking pools.

Why??

I'm surprised the number of pools in general. How does the equipment not all get messed up over winter? Sure you drain it but snow/ice I'm sure gets in stuff.

Why???

Where my tech people at?

Moving to the area

Hey,

Moving to the Chicago burbs from AZ for... freedoms. I was wondering how best to get connected into a tech community.

I'm a product leader and typically gravitate toward rapid growth startups vs big tech. The puberty stages where everything is breaking because it was built with duct tape and glue and we have to figure out how to scale it up while also still growing.

I have a good job situation but love networking and getting involved informally in tech circles. I like learning about problems people are solving for, what new tech is capable of (or not capable of), and just having a genuinely helpful and interesting group of people to chat work stuffs with.

Not looking for tech bros

Hey,

Looking for a good realtor referral. Moving to Schaumburg and selling my home in AZ in the spring.

Never had to coordinate selling/buying before, especially not with an out of state move. Really stressing out about it.

Also my husband is an elementary school music teacher, wondering if there's any teachers in this sub that would be willing to network with him. He's great and got a teacher of the year award last year in the best school district in Phoenix.

Thanks :)

Kids Competitive Dance Studios

Business Recommendations

Moving to Schaumburg area. My 12 year has been in competitive dance since she was 3 and wants to keep it up when we move.

Wondering if anyone has studio recommendations. Usually lean towards studios that teach multiple styles Jazz, lyrical, ballet, contemporary, etc

Ideally they have their stuff together with billing and schedules. Looking for a competitive team with as little toxicity as possible.

Thanks :)

Moving to Shaumburg. I love love love one medical but there isn't an office near Shaumburg.

Anyone know a good doctors office where you can do virtual visits, same day or next day appointment bookings, lab in office, etc?
