I've read many times that Maturin is a composite of many different characters, but never heard Archibald Menzies mentioned. Reading his biography, I think fans of the series will see why I've made this post.

A little about Archibald:

  • Scottish, not Irish, but still an affiliated territory with likely conflicted views of English rule and their own independence
  • Surgeon, botanist, and naturalist
  • Lived 1754-1842
  • During his naval expeditions, he assembled the most extensive collection of extra-European lichen specimens of the 18th century
  • Studied botany but was encouraged to study medicine
  • Qualified as surgeon in Royal Navy, served aboard HMS Nonsuch, HMS DIscovery, in the west indie

I work at a small-sized firm based in a tertiary market. We work nationally and I'm focused on a handful of asset types. I would call myself Director or VP level and my day to day includes running proforma updates, yield studies, reviewing work by analysts (comp studies), writing investment committee updated/memos, and then dealing with the multitude of project-level management issues that arise every day.

The entirety of the firm's acquisitions is currently being handled by a single person who is handling multiple asset types. When a project passes barebones assessment, it gets handed off to an asset expert who then updates and corrects the barebones underwriting and assuming it still loo

A few years ago it was broadly believed here and otherwise that the Micro-air easy start would extend life of a compressor. I'm not sure the details, but something changed about a year ago, seems low quality capacitors were being used and many people here had turned against them until QC issues were resolved. Are there any alternate brands/systems that work as well or better and have stricter QC?

Older Frigidaire dryer (Fdg336res2 ). Previous rebuild 4 years ago included new front felt seals, drum bearing, belt, and belt pulley.

The dryer started making a loud rumbling noise last week. I popped the front off and the felt seals were worn out. This is the old style felt seal w/ 3 plastic bearings on top.

Trying to avoid unnecessary spending I started w/ just replacing the front felt seal and the belt. Now the constant noise is gone, but after running for 10-15 minutes it gets a loud vibration that you can hear all over the whole house.

Next steps I'm thinking of replacing the main bearing (at the back of the barrel) and idler pulley (even though it doesn't seem seized).

I have an old 1940s house with an original cast-iron tub. This evening I had to snake the drain for the first time and had been told in the past the best way to go was through the overflow drain.

Without paying close attention I screw out the overflow screw and remove the cover and snaked the drain. After unclogging it, I went to screw the overflow cover back and realized that there was no screw hole. All I can guess is that someone had put some kind of rod behind the cover to catch the screw and when I unscrewed it, it fell down the drain. Now I'm in a bit of a predicament.

I am going to Wales next month and was wondering about the legality of backpacking/wild camping in Gwydir forest park or near there. I am experienced backpacker/hiker/outdoorsman, but finding clear concise information on this type of activity in Wales is not easy.

Some folks say its not allowed but basically ignored, some say its allowed if you have permission, others say it's not allowed and you can get hit with a tresspassing (or local equivalent) violation/ticket (arrested? No idea).

If any local or experienced camper in that area can give me some tips, I'd be very much appreciated. Very much believe in no trace left behind so I'm not looking to ruin your beautiful natural landscape, I

I had a friend gift me his older Ping S, L, and G wedges. I played with them this weekend and was unimpressed. Maybe it's a matter of practice, bu the Kirklands felt better. Generated more spin, easier to get under the ball, well-balanced...overall felt more modern with the grips being my only gripe about the Kirklands.

The old Pings are from 2006-2010, so I'm wondering if wedge technology has really changed that much over the years or if this is just a matter of practicing with the Pings until I'm comfortable.

Until the recent two updates I was playing Dark Alliance without any stuttering. I tried rolling back to an older version, and yet the stuttering remains.

I set Threaded Optimization to off, power mode to full performance, and it is set up to use the GPU. Vulkan does nothing.

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti/PCIe/SSE

Does anyone have any idea what could've changed that would persist through rolling back to an older version? Or is there some setting I haven't tried that I'm missing?

I found some nice OCF dipoles such as this by N9SAB/Aetherwave or this by Chameleon. While I'm sure these are great pieces of kit, I was a bit shocked by the price.

Are these kits something I could easily reproduce with basic skills (and a 3D printer)? I have no experience making antennas, but have done simple electronics projects in the past.
