I've been a machinist for 25 years, from a hole-in-the-wall garage to multinational conglomerates, from rubbers/plastics to exotic alloys, making parts for every industry on the planet. Cutting 6061 with a 6mm OD grooving tool (CFMR10006D). Speeds are a bit fast, feed is a bit light, nothing unreasonable, sounds good cutting. Running fine for a long time when something happened to cause:

• Insert pulls out of the toolholder,

• Toolholder pulls out of the turret, AND

• Workpiece pulls out of the chuck

I found this chip shortly after it happened -- it was melt-your-fingers hot, obviously coolant stopped getting to the cutting surface... but I'm not sure that was the initial cause. I've run very dull inserts without coolant before and never seen anything like that failure mode.

The owners and strata are fed up with abuse of visitor parking; being used by residents, people from other complexes, over max usage/week, etc. Our council wants to start logging times/dates/license plates/parking passes -- people would walk the property with a clipboard, write plates/parking pass/date/time, and snap a photo in case there's a dispute.

While license plates are ostensibly publicly viewable, and it seems reasonable for a strata to monitor usage of its' property... ultimately it's a collection of what might be considered private data.

My family doctor set me up with a urologist consult … The earliest date I could get is May of 2025 - and that’s just the consult,it’ll be at LEAST another year after that for an actual appointment to get it done. A 30 minute procedure. Three fucking years. Unbelievable.

Classical chess might produce more accurate games, but it comes at tremendous cost. In the '90s, adjournment was removed with widespread computing. Technology has changed again, and a far larger chunk of the world market is ripe for the taking. Hi everyone,

Took a job at a plastic injection company working in the toolroom and they want to train me on their EDM machine. I've worked with dozens of controllers and I'm sure I can pick up the machine, but my 20 years experience making chips doesn't help.

We have a Makino with a 30k spindle and graphite package for making electrodes and a Makino sinker EDM machine... Official Makino training is either in-person in Mexico or they send someone for $7,500... We have a training budget but it's not that.

Any suggestions for online courses? Free resources? Or can someone explain how to calculate the equivalent of feed rate and power or ...?
