Does anyone know if its worth going from Big 4 tax to Tax or fund accounting as an exit opportunity. Like whats better. I know tax pays more, but fund accounting pays less with more experience?

I hit all the benchmarks to get promoted. Missed the first promotion. Told i wasnt ready. After the second season Ive worked with many teams (none of which I held a acting senior role) but got fairly good reviews. Ive seen others get promoted for less. I am in a conundrum as to what to do or Is big 4 going through a rough time right now. Anyone know?
