I'm debating whether I should use a password manager to generate a random password for my BackBlaze or have it be a permutation of my password manager's password so that I can remember it in the case that my house catches on fire (with all my devices in it) or something like that.

My main concern with this approach is that if BackBlaze has plain-text knowledge of that password and if there was a breach, then that permutation could be used to open my password manager.

Granted if I use a randomly generated password, then I won't be able to access my backup without a password manager, and I won't be able to access my password manager without a back up. :/

Sorry for the multiple posts but it seems like it would be a separate topic. I'm wondering for 1P8 on MacOS, is it possible to have a local copy of the vault to back up?

I ask since my 2FA I use are two Yubikeys (security keys) and I was hoping to be able to back up my vault so that in the future if I ever use the keys in a house fire, that I can download my vault back and just decrypt the vault using my secret key and password, and that vault would also contain a TOTP for my 1P account.

I currently store a physical copy of my emergency kit on site in my house. However, I'm realizing that this is probably a bad idea if my house ever floods or catches on fire and I don't escape with any of my devices (e.g. phone or laptop). Since all my cloud services (e.g. Apple, Google Drive, etc) are stored in 1Password, I can't necessarily back up the PDF on them since without access to 1P, I won't be able to get in.

I'm wondering if people here have any suggestions on where to keep a copy of the secret key so that in the worst case scenario I don't get completely locked out?

I currently have a 600 GB of data (including system files so really less than that, which I know for this sub is nothing) that I have backed up to a local time machine drive.

However, I want to be able to store a carbon copy of my drive once a year or every 6 months or so off site in case if my house catches on fire or some kind of natural disaster. I was wondering, what is the best off-site back up plan for this?

Would it be to use something like BackBlaze? A 4TB plan from iCloud? Or to get another 1~2TB hard drive to make another back up and put in a safe or somewhere else? The nice thing about a physical off-site solution is that I can also put my 1Password secret key in there as well

How long is the cable that comes with the TS4? I need something that is at least 0.75m long and am wondering if I need to order the 2m CalDigit or 1m Apple T4 Pro cable with the dock?

Also on a side note, should I wait on the TS4 to wait for the TS5? The TS4 is about two years old now and I'm wondering if I'm better off waiting a month or two or if TS5 is going to be another year or so?

I'm looking a new monitor for my M1 Pro Macbook Pro (2021). I doesn't have to be an explicitly gaming oriented monitor but I was just looking at RTing.com

I was initially going to get the Dell U2723QE but the Acer is on sale at Best Buy for $550 and I was wondering if it's worth the additional $50 more from the Dell? Or if there are other 4K monitors you guys recommend?

Is it possible to use a Thunderbolt dock to power a 24" 1080p display @ 60Hz and a 27" 4K display @ variable Hz (144Hz)?

Or do I have to attach the two displays separately to the Thunderbolt port? I'm thinking of buying a Acer XV275K monitor to do a dual screen setup with my existing 24" Dell monitor and been wondering if it would even be feasible with the M1 Pro.

The technical specifications of only being able to power a 60Hz display via Thunderbolt doesn't seem to be in alignment with what I'm reading online. But it seems like I'm getting the different iterations of the Apple silicon Macbook Pros mixed up.

I have two US Bank Cash+ cards and I'm having a hard time finding how US Bank categories transactions. Some things are so obvious such as natural gas bill being categorized as home utilities. But other categories like sporting goods, I'm not sure. US Bank doesn't seem to have that posted in their transaction statements either.

For example, I have a local "sporting good" store but I think it's being categorized as "Home Goods" instead. Their cash back portal doesn't seem to list how much cash back I'm getting per transaction either.

So what to do? I'm hesitant on spending anything big on this card unless I know for sure that it's going to hit the 5% cashback.

I'm flying into Houston to celebrate my partner's birthday and I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for must try / great restaurants that aren't super formal but more than just casual everyday eats (unless it's amazing)? Ideally somewhere <$60/person.

It could really be anywhere in Houston but she's based in the Spring, TX area. No allergies or aversions.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

I'm taking a round trip flight (5hr) from SEA to IAH and back. Was wondering if people had any good food they recommend? I always get the cheese plate but I'm thinking maybe I should try other foods like the charcuterie board or the morning protein / salmon dip.

Any recommendations for a good lunch and breakfast option?

I'm currently renting a house and my ceiling lights in the bedroom & office are these LED drivers. The lighting is horrible and my landlord is open to me making modifications (as long as I put it back the way it was when I leave, which won't be for a few years at least). I really want to be able to change the lighting so that I can do a circadian rhythm like lighting or at least not have it be so fluorescent.

I'm wondering, what is the best course of action to turn these into Hue-like fixtures?

  1. Replace the LED drivers/lights itself with a Hue-like smart LEDs? (Any suggestions?)
  2. Change the LED drivers to just take light bulbs? (Any advice?)
  3. Or just find really good lamps to put ar

Currently living in Seattle and wanting to get a gift for my partner. She's a really cold sleeper and I was thinking of getting her a Feathered Friends Bavarian Comforter. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Light vs Summer? Medium would seem to be way too way for our PNW climate but Summer would allow us to use the comforter all year around vs only in the winter with the light.

I want to get my friend a gift since he's an avid hiker and just moved to Oregon. Do you guys have any recommendations for books or resources I can buy him? I know in Washington I swear by Craig Romano's books but I wonder if Oregon has anything similar.
