I work in schools in communities that ICE has targeted in our area. After watching the terrible videos last week, I realized a) I probably would have driven away in a panic if an aggressive masked ICE employee (agent?) had been yelling and cursing at me and tried to open my car door and b) I actually have no idea what we are supposed to do in that situation or any circumstance with ICE. Police are designated as “community helpers” theoretically employed to “serve and protect”. Who is ICE to American citizens?

My daughter is graduating HS this spring and she got into several state schools but we are in the bubble where we make too much to get significant financial aid but too little to pay full freight. We have enough to cover almost 2 years and after doing some research I realized I cannot support her taking out private loans. Plus who knows what is coming with this administration. This weekend, I told her my thoughts and she decided to go to NVCC and transfer to go away junior and senior years. I’m putting my strong, calm mom face on but inside I’m sad I can’t give her the full four years. Any info on this path to a college degree is most welcome. I hope I’m giving her the best advice.

Get out there and talk to everyone you know. Tell your stories if this affecting you or someone you know. Real people need to be the face of this. So many lies are out there including the fallacy that illegally fired probationary employees were on probation and fired because of poor performance. This is categorically untrue. People have been isolated and living on their phones and reading headlines and listening to sound bites. Talk. Motivate people. And make them see you.

I just saw the post about the man rescuing the cat and people honking bc they had to wait.

The other day my kids jumped out of the car in the Giant parking lot to help a very elderly woman put groceries in her car. People honked as I let them out and raced by when I moved.

I get it. Life is busy, people are stressed, and the world is pretty mean but sometimes people are not the worst.

As an American living through the most recent presidential election, I never related to a show more than during the vote to stay or go scene in Season 2, Episode 3.
