Would their plan have worked?

SpoilerAll Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely

Finally finished the main series of novels last night, what a ride!

There’s no “answer”, and deliberately so, by the authors, but would the Gatebuilders plan for killing the “dark gods” have worked?

We get some indication that as Holden starts reaching out across minds he’s getting stronger and more able to fight the “dark gods”, but if Holden had been able to combine all of humanity into a single mind, would that had been enough to permanently defeat the dark gods?

I’m inclined to think it was always a fools errand. Ring space is only a small bubble in the “old universe”. That all the struggle a single kind of humanity could put up against the “dark gods” would be about the same as the w

The food in the Expanse suuuucks

Any Show & Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged

I’m currently traveling for work. While having my breakfast today, the free buffet meal at a my budget hotel I realized how it would seem like a gourmet meal to most people living in the expanse.

It’s great how Ty and Frank Daniel, really take time to mention in detail the food of the Expanse. While the idea of space travel and all that sounds exciting to all of us “stuck” on Earth… one area we have the people living in the expanse beat in spades is with food.

The vast majority of food eaten seems little better than prison food. Retextured soy, beans, and mushrooms, attempting to be poor imitations of noodles more prized protein cuts.

Of course it makes sense, the logistics involve

Title.

Always thought the formation of Germany was a pretty cool piece of history given the fractured state of the polities in what is now Germany. So going through this process was one of my top priorities after getting EU5. Never suspected just how difficult and taxing of a process it would be (indeed this will be the first campaign I have finished after ~250 hours of gameplay).

Having to contend with the Wittelsbach Neglect to start the game (I know this is changing in 1.1, haven't really looked into the the new mechanic yet), is annoying and frustrating as you are hardly in a strong position to start the game as is. To deal with the low control in the less developed and Polish leaning

What are some good zero risk options for storing cash for roughly 150 days, that might still earn some interest/return during that period?

Was thinking t-bills might be a good option, but wondering if there are any alternatives that I hadn't thought about.

Not expecting any crazy return, but just want to avoid a relatively large sum of money setting idle.

Everyone is down, god knows I'm down over the results of the election.

Perhaps I could offer some silver lining to view the election result.

Trump, as it has been well reported has assembled a diverse coalition of middle and lower income voters. Many of these people are understandably frustrated with spiraling housing costs, day-to-day expenses, and stagnant wages.

Earlier this year(?) Ezra did an episode on this subject. Listening to many episodes of the Daily which frequently dealt with voters/people frustrated with affordability issues, leading to many to be apathetic toward voting, or voting for Trump. My personal feelings of Trump aside, I can't exactly blame someone for not carin

Given how resounding of a defeat the Harris campaign suffered last night. Losing not just all seven swing states, but the popular vote as well. At what point did the Harris campaign start to suspect they were underwater?

I remember back in early-October the Harris campaign was putting out some worrying messages. But they then seemed pretty confident heading into election.

Was it just an attempt to put on a brave face and hope confidence will carry the day? Or were they totally caught off-guard not unlike the Clinton campaign?

Also wonder the aspect regarding Biden/the White House. Did Harris want to make more daylight, and Biden stop her?

I don’t know if there’s much forward looking

Planning on early voting today, have questions on a couple of the items...

Any info on Jackson County Question 1 (raising property taxes to support seniors)? On paper I'm fine with this, but don't know if there would be particular concerns regarding how JaCo handles the money.

Any particular concerns regarding Courts of Appeals judges?

Also thoughts on MO Amend 6 (establishing small court fees)?

I found this helpful on everything else: https://bluevoterguide.org/edit-ballot?bid20=20b707796ae48cf2be04b8078393d11d7a&forElection=188&lang=&src=&rnd=70942

Asteroid 2024 PT5 has been in the news recently as it will temporarily become a moon of Earth.

Despite its small size, only about 35 feet in diameter (estimate, could be somewhat smaller or bigger), it would probably still have a fairly decent amount of water and volatiles on it.

It would be neat in-game, that after researching deep space sky watch, it provided an opportunity to spot a small asteroid. This could kickoff a faction project/event chain to capture it and exploit it that provides research as well as some amount of space materials that could jumpstart your early space economy. Note while this is a faction project, all factions will h

Hey r/kansascity. So have been long considering electrifying my home and finally want to pull the trigger.

I want to get completely get rid of all my gas appliances; heater and water heater, and replace them with heat pump systems. For HVAC, moving to a ventless system. (Recommendations/expeirences welcome here!)

Also strongly considering updating my electrical panel (likely a smart electrical panel like a Span) and adding battery storage.

For the electrical work I have people I’ve used before that I’d likely use them for that part of the project… but don’t really have a good HVAC person. Heat pumps aren’t common, so want to make sure I get someone who understands working with/installin

With the stunning collapse of the Eagles, as well as the many other teams being exposed as "frauds" during wildcard week, take a moment to appreciate the consistency from this franchise since Mahomes has become a starter.

At this point, their only historical comparable would be the 2011-2018 Patriots, where they not only made the playoffs every season, but won at least one post-season game.

Each of the past six seasons have had their trying moments. The back-to-back losses in weeks 14 and 15 in the 2018 season, and the frustrating way the 2018 AFCCG ended. Mahomes injury in the 2019 season. The SB LV loss in the 2020 season. The struggles we had early in the 2021 season, and the 2nd hal
