Hi. I'm needing to replace some circuit breakers in my home but I'm having a hard time of it. The box takes Cutler Hammer breakers, which I've gathered has been subsumed by Eaton now. I'm needing a 40 double pole to replace a breaker that went bad and was subsequently destroyed by the idiot that attempted changing it the first time around, but I'm a bit lost on the specifics beyond that. Looking at my other breakers they're listed as Types BRD & A, but so far I haven't been able to find anyone selling anything that matches that. Is there something more modern that's interchangeable with it? Am I just looking at the wrong thing to check for compatibility with my box?

Hi everyone. Like the title says I've got a weird setup. I live on a property in a rural area with multiple houses on it. There are essentially only two choices of internet provider. Neither are good but my current has been such a disaster these past few months that I can't stand them anymore. Their one advantage is that they can run a line all the way from the pole to my house. The second option that I plan to switch to can't because my house is quite some distance from the road. They can install at my neighbor's, though. We had things set up like that in the past, and I was able to get a signal through the use of an outdoor wifi antenna. The brand was Bearifi, and it worked pretty well for
Hello, complete noob to plumbing here, but I've gradually been picking up terms and concepts.
About a week ago the water pump developed an issue that blew a pipe and started flooding the place. With no shut off valve for the water to my house (thank my mother's boyfriend for that) and three other houses running off the same pump the most sane thing to do seemed to be cutting the line to my house entirely so the neighbors could have water. I've been through a few rounds of too many cooks who don't know plumbing complicating things and trouble with the local hardware store employees or my own unfamiliarity with the terminology leading to incorrect purchases.
There's been some progress made,
Hello everyone. I'm possibly moving to the Detroit area from Texas in a year or two. It's dependent mainly on how much money I manage to save. My primary reasons are to be closer to friends and because I want to move to a place with longer winters and cooler weather.
- What do you most enjoy about Detroit?
- What are some potential pitfalls and drawbacks that someone thinking about moving into the city should know about before making the decision?
- How does suburban life measure up against city life there?
- I'm accustomed to living out in the country with little to no neighbors. Are there countryside-ish areas that aren't too far from basic city conveniences like grocery stores and r
I was reading II Chronicles today and went through the reign of King Hezekiah. During his rule Sennacherib tried to siege Jerusalem but failed and was killed by his own sons. It got me looking into Sennacherib and it turns out that his own records support the Biblical account. Just a neat little thing to share for those who wonder about historical accuracy in the Bible.
Hi everyone. I'm maybe two weeks into C++. It's my first real programming language but I have some experience with a lot of the basic concepts like variables, scope, loops, formatting, etc. from elsewhere. I'm nowhere near giving up but I'm feeling a little hindered in my learning experience so far. My learning process is typically to copy code from tutorials and open source things, see if it works, and then fool around with the code and go over it in more depth as I do. Problem is that even when copy/pasting the IDE/Compiler I'm using (Visual Studio 2022) often throws a ton of error messages at me. So I'm starting to wonder about some things.
- Do the basic libraries often change much bet
Hi everyone. I'd like it if people would pray for me and a friend of mine. She's a long distance friend and is often away due to RL and physical/mental health issues. The last few times we spoke she was a little out of it and mentioned RL, then she stopped showing up entirely. She hasn't been around in over a month now so I've been getting pretty worried. Please pray that she's okay and that God gives me the strength and peace of mind not to be too consumed by my worries.
Edit: Thank you all for the prayers everyone.
Hello! Ex-Suddenlink customer here. I'm considering giving Suddenlink another shot now that they're offering fiber in my area. I have two questions though.
1: My old modem was a cable modem. Will it be compatible with a fiber based service?
2: My house is pretty far from the road, which was an obstacle to getting a reliable internet service when I last used Suddenlink. Do fiber connections have this limitation as well?
Edit: Thanks for the answers everyone! Looks like I'll have to call them and see about this stuff.
Hello. I'm having some trouble in the house that seems to be electrical in nature. The oven (it's electric) will beep periodically. When I try to use it the lights don't come on or are dimmed from what they usually are. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. Weirder still is that both the water heater and the fridge are on different breakers and along separate walls and they don't work either, but when the oven works normally they work fine too. I'm hoping it's something I can fix myself but with the info I have now it seems like a bit of a headscratcher. Anyone have any ideas of what it might be or how I could go about diagnosing a cause?

An interesting article. It's got a few points of interest, one of them being the guy who told his bosses that he'd automated away much of his actual workload only for them to say they didn't have any other sort of work for him to do.
Hi everyone. Yang Gang here. I made an observation recently and felt like it might be worth sharing here since Tulsi is the only candidate I really see calling the DNC out on their actions. It's something that needs to be done, and I wish more candidates would speak out about it.
I checked out the latest Iowa poll in full, which can be found here. If I'm understanding the data right it turns out that a little under .05% of the state's population was polled, and their margin of error was 4.6%, a number larger than the percentage needed to qualify. 4.6% is actually considered a good number but at the sam
Hi everyone. I had a thought and wanted to share with everyone before I lose net access for about a week. One of the issues we seem to be facing is reaching the offline voters. Some of us phonebank and canvass, but there are other ways we can get the word out there in addition to this. Local newspapers might be dying but they're still around and could potentially reach people. Let's say we get a few people here who fancy themselves good writers to write out some form letters. Make a case for Yang's key policies like UBI, Democracy Dollars, media bias, and whatever else springs to mind using a letter to the editor format, but leave things like address, the specific paper it's being written to
In light of the speaking times of candidates and another poster pointing out that Comcast owns a big slice of the major news networks (MSNBC being especially relevant) I did some looking around and came across this. If you select an individual candidate from the list it shows how much money they've taken for their campaign and from who on the Contributors tab. Just look at all the donations from Comcast, AT&T, Amazon, and Disney (which owns ABC). Biden got $82,137 from Comcast. Harris took a combined $237,899 from Disney and AT&T. Warren and Sanders, despite their talk against Amazon, took large contributions from them. Buttigieg
