I’m from a far-flung suburb of the city where we pretty much don’t even lock our doors much, but am about to relocate to Pittsburgh proper (Knoxville, if it matters).

I’ve done my share of bike riding in the city but because of my location it’s always been a situation of driving the bike into town and riding. Consequently, even if I made stops the bike was cable locked outside of a bar/restaurant/shop for a short amount of time. I’ve never had any issues.

I realize proper precautions might should need rethought with my new situation. I’ll surely be doing a lot more errand running and casual hanging out, which may mean my bike is locked outside for a longer period of time. I’

The physics of it at hard for me to make sense of.

This doesn’t feel regionally specific but it’s in case it is; it’s something I wondered on a recent trip down the C&O canal towpath near Washington DC

I’m in town for work and need to use a 4mm (I’m pretty sure) hex wrench for .5 seconds.

I’m sure I could go buy one but I’m guessing there’s a public bike repair station I just haven’t seen.
