Burnie city council sold 3ha of coastal land (and known little penguin colony) to a developer, who unsurprisingly now wants to develop the land.

The site is zoned for “environmental management.”

How can a council be allowed to do something like this in the first place?

This is a perfect example of how Tasmania takes a good idea - a beachside hotel - then does it in the worst way possible so when there is any criticism we are considered “anti-development.”

Novice mead maker - successfully made JAO mead and decided to try a simple 3 ingredient honey using some local unheated honey (and water + EC118).

My biggest error? I got confused with pounds & kilograms and ended up using 3kg honey for 5L demijohn (~5lb in a gallon for US).

Second biggest error was not taking a hydrometer meter that day.

In JAO style, I added the airlock, put it in my basement and once I confirmed it was happily bubbling, ignored it for the next few months (checking just every now and again to confirm ongoing activity). After about 3 months it had stilled, and tonight I got around to bottling it.

However, the hydrometer now is reading 1.140, and unsurprisingly it i

Salvage Union sets us in a mobile city trawling the post-apocalyptic wastelands either an anti-capitalist crew.

What media do you draw from to get the feel, look or stories? Why?

For me, I am taking from:

  • BattleTech
  • Zoids
  • Kenshi, and -Dark Sun

While only 2 of these are mecha, they all deal with survival & growth in a wasteland, and at times, about making something out of the ashes of past people.

At the higher tiers of the game (T4-6) how well does the salvager ‘keep up’?

They lack advanced and legendary skills, but make up for this by having 2 additional skills, and a broader base to work from.

(Though at a glance, there is quite a bit of overlap in class design, so I’m not sure how much extra flexibility this really gives)

A common complaint in reviews of Salvage Union was that it was a great system with a sketch of the (default campaign) world.

How well do the 3 published campaigns get us into the world? In your opinion, which campaign does the best job of that?

(The blurb on Rainmaker sounds the most interesting to me)

It’s plum season down in the antipodes and this year I am dipping my toes in plum country wines / plum cider / plum-whatever.

I am hoping someone with more experience can help with why we do certain things when it comes to making drinks from plums (I’ve only made ciders and simple mead before):

  • Why do recipes add sugar & water? For sweet plums (eg: damson), could I add less water and forgo the extra sugar?
  • The plum mash is so syrupy! I’ve been diluting it with water, but if I left it as-is, is the end product that thick, or would it ‘drop out’?
  • What does the pectineze do? Is it aesthetics, taste, more juice?
  • generally is it better to mix multiple plum types together, or keep them s

After playing some EO4 and finishing the 3 playthroughs of EO3, EO1 HD feels surprisingly empty.

I expect earlier games to be less polished, but EO1 feels positively empty.

  • There are almost no ‘encounters’ in the dungeon after BF2 (other than the extremely sparse plot-related pop-ups (eg: finding a monster nest: what do you do?)
  • There are very few shortcuts
  • Maps have few rooms and many patterns, often allowing me to map spaces without visiting them
  • Outside alchemist, there is only 2 obvious paths for each class (and no subclass)
  • Binds and status are extremely rare and can safely be ignored in 99% of combats (I still have the original 2 Therica B I bought)
  • There is very little v

Tips to solo RPG together?

General-Solo-Discussion

A friend and I aren’t able to play together, however we are both interested in solo RPGs and have dabbled in the space.

Would anyone have tried a method to run 2 solo campaigns that somehow interact with each other? The best I can think of is a dungeon crawl where we find proof of the other’s exploits (where 1 game day = 1 life day, and we frequently update each other on the what our PCs did)

I might be missing something, but heavy armour has felt underwhelming for the majority of EO3.

For most of the game, my Hoplite and Sovereign have been using medium as its offering the same or better DEF.

Is there just a handful of worthwhile heavy armours, or do they have unwritten buffs that make them worthwhile?

r/Homebrewing•

I’ve recently gotten into fermenting and homebrewing thanks to Katz’s Art of Fermentation.

I’ve finished my first simple cider, and was suprised to find it tasted like white wine. It was quite nice, just very different to store bought cider.

Is this normal for a simple cider?

My simple cider was:

  • made from just 1 type of apple (golden delicious)
  • no additional sugar
  • no yeast nutrients
  • used wild yeast
  • aged on lees for ~3 months
  • kept in a storeroom, around 14 degrees Celsius (50-60 Fahrenheit), so a ‘slow’ ferment
  • did not back sweeten
  • bottled then aged just 2 weeks before sampling (I didn’t use enough carbonation drops, so remained quite still)
  • 7% ABV

Unsure if I should
