John Mackey's excellent book on conscious capitalism has this to say about the difference between the meaning of purpose, mission and vision:

  • Your purpose is the difference you want to make in the world.
  • Your mission is how you act to make this difference.
  • Your vision is the picture of the world once your purpose has been realized and your mission accomplished.

I've been around the anarcho-capitalist debate for a decade or so, and I've become acutely aware that while all debates tend to arrive at strong conclusions over purpose, there remains enormous confusion over the mission and vision of anarcho-capitalism.

I therefore invite everyone to describe their vision of anarcho-capitali

These types of threads come up every week across Reddit and other social media, so I've finally synthesized my response to this phenomenon as such:

We're living in a very particular era when not only manual labor has been automated, but also intellectual labor is being automated by things like search engines and artificial intelligence. The combination of the two automations is a type of robotics that can do any actual labor imaginable.

Economically, what this means is that the price of labor will fall down to practically nothing. What is it that will be wanted from humans after this happens? Intelligence, sociability, entertainment, creativity - those are the jobs of the future.

Let's define what it means to be responsible. One is considered responsible for his actions if the consequences of the actions are owned by him. For example, if one drives drunk and crashes into a tree, the damage to the car and his body is his to bear. If he was driving someone else's car, then responsibility will be transferred to the drunk driver, by making him pay to repair the damages to the car (and possibly for the tree as well). If the drunk driver crashes into someone else, then he will be responsible for the crime - he will have to make amends to the victim and prove that he is no danger to society or go to prison.

Responsibility has two axis - the negative and positive. When on

Over at The Last Psychiatrist, the author defines narcissism as constructing an identity around what one believes instead of what one does. For many people who believe they are Neo from the Matrix, they live their lives believing that at any moment they would become heroes, even though in reality they spend their entire days as software analysts.

I'm finally coming to understand this personality defect in people who engage in metapolitical arguments, with such declaration as I became an anarchist or I used to be a conservative, or even I decided to become an objectivist. I always thought these statements

I've updated the list of fallacies of intellectual communism to clarify the line on rivalry. Hope this makes it clear why information is perfectly valid property in capitalism.

But let’s suppose that rivalry is a valid pre-condition for property rights. Is information non-rivalrous? You can in fact create a copy without consuming someone else’s copy, hence it seems to be miraculously non-scarce. But consider what the creator intended to create when he invested in his information – it is not an unlimited supply of copies, but the po

This tanked in politicaldiscussion for suspect reasons. I'm curious to see what specifically libertarian people think of it.

Imagine this system: at election time, the director of the election sends each voter a postcard. On this postcard, the voter writes in the name and address of his chosen candidate. Then, on election day, those candidates who hold the most of these postcards are chosen as the members of government. Those who have more postcards than they need to be elected can share theirs to bring in persons who didn't quite make the cut, and those who don't have enough can pool their votes with another individual to get one of them into government.

This way, every voter will make a vote of pure conscience and elect only those that truly represent their interests.

The chosen candidates will then meet in an

Dear friends. Please help me edit this article on the meaning of Wolfram's science for economics, which I expect to be one of the most important attacks the economic orthodoxy has ever suffered. You may be part of history!

**Beginning in the mid-2oth century, economists have published articles, books and original research whose content consisted increasingly in systems of equations acting as economic models, and decreasingly of economic reasoning and theory. This was based on the belief that the epistemology of science relied on mathematics as providing verifiable theories, such as those that were prevalent in physics. Stephen Wolfram, a prodigy physicist, began writing a computer package
