Current PGY1 IM resident in the US. Cardiology is my top choice, but I have a history of mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the submandibular gland and am concerned about long-term radiation exposure during cardiology training/practice. For cardiology fellows and attendings: would this history make you reconsider pursuing cardiology, especially if interventional or EP are future possibilities? How significant is the radiation exposure in real-world practice? Would appreciate any experiences or perspectives.

Hi everyone,

I’m an incoming PGY-1 (from India) starting Internal Medicine residency this July on a J-1 visa sponsored through ECFMG.

My program recently asked for vacation preferences, and I’m trying to plan ahead regarding J-1 visa renewal/stamping. From what I understand, the visa stamp can expire while staying in the U.S., but renewal is needed once leaving and re-entering the country.

For residents who have gone through this:

Is it generally safe/common to travel back to your home country during PGY-1 for J-1 renewal?

What months are usually considered safest/best for this? March? April? Later?

How long did you keep as buffer in case of administrative processing delays?

Any rotat

Looking for Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics, 38th Edition (latest edition published this year).

The 37e is pretty easy to find online, but I’ve been searching everywhere for the 38e PDF/epub without much luck.

If any kind soul here has access through institution/library or knows where it’s available, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks.

Hey everyone, thinking of starting this course and wanted some honest reviews before investing time into it.

Is it actually good or more of a time waste? Did it genuinely help you learn/understand IM better, or is it just overhyped?

Also, if there’s anything better that’s more engaging and useful just for building knowledge and casually watching/learning, please suggest that too.

Would really appreciate real experiences — pros, cons, worth it or not...

I went to the website and started looking for slots it was available.. it does show up… should i take a slot now for a few days after my arrival or wait upto 11 days to book? What is the 11 day thing btw? Someone told to wait till 11 days. Feeling confused! 😕

The taxes are too much i have heard. There is federal, state taxes. Also the cost of living is very high! The rent is 2400 for a studio. IMG here. I received a prematch IM offer from BronxCare about a month after interview and I’m unsure whether to accept or go through the Match.

Stats: Step 1 24x, Step 2 25x, YOG 6. Applied initially without USCE but now have 3 months USCE. Applied to 200+ programs. Interviews: • IM: BronxCare (offer), Interfaith, Trinitas • Neuro: Cleveland Clinic Florida Total 4(2 prematch + 2 match)

Would you take the guaranteed spot or risk matching at a potentially better program if you were at my position? What should I do ????? :(

Appreciate any advice.
