Howdy was working for 3 days, then i ran the arch update and it seemed to have broken things. I came to cachy saying it was ready for normal users but 2 days of troubleshooting has me wanting to go back to windows.

these are all the things I tried:

  • Installed howdy and dependencies (python-dlib, python-opencv, boost, cmake, ccache-ext, cuda, cudnn, etc.) via paru
  • Rebuilt python-dlib against libjxl 0.12
  • Added PAM line auth sufficient pam_howdy.so workaround=native to /etc/pam.d/system-auth
  • Set frame_width = 640, frame_height = 400 in /lib/security/howdy/config.ini (also tried 1920x1080)
  • Edited /usr/lib/security/howdy/recorders/video_capture.py to force cv2.CAP_V4L2 backend

I'm pretty noob on linux so I was trying to troubleshoot with claude to no success.
I'm using cachy because it was recommended as a relatively easy out of the box experience for those looking to ditch windows. I had popOS on an old laptop that I really liked but was steered away from it because of some bugs etc.

symptoms:

  1. display is not very bright

  2. colours are washed out

  3. i cant brighten or darken the screen

here is teh ai output:

Title: G16 2025 (GU605CR, Arrow Lake + 5070 Ti) OLED brightness on Linux: DPCD works but caps dim, HDR reported incapable

Running CachyOS, KDE Plasma 6.7 Wayland, kernel 7.1.2, hybrid graphics (i915 + NVIDIA 610.43).

I have a ton of different RRSPs from different jobs I've had over the years. Most are with major banks. I also have some with wealthsimple where I was doing my own portfolio mgmt. Essentially just putting it in VOO, VFV, XEQT.

I believe wealth simple has lower fees than the other banks, but I am no expert so I'm not sure on any hidden fees or anything like that.
I have also heard wealth simple has high currency conversion fees.

All that to say:

I am thinking of moving all my RRSPs to Wealthsimple in my self-directed account and just dumping it all in XEQT (which is in CAD afaik).

Any real risks/dangers here?

Thanks in advance

Building a 2D submarine management/exploration game in Godot 4.

The core loop: manage crew and subs at base, send them on expeditions deeper into the ocean. During expeditions the sub is AI-controlled with minimal input from player-

the player sets a general direction (rise/hold left/hold right/descend) and the crew navigates autonomously. The caves are tilemap-based with 16px tiles and hand-authored, but the sub has no foreknowledge of the layout.

The idea is something like motorsport manager when in race mode where you can give some commands to the drivers, but the drivers are the ones racing. The problem is that I'm struggling with pathfinding ina way that doesn't constantly

I was just quote 1100$ all in for the high voltage coolant flush. Is this typical? Anywhere in Ontario do it cheaper or are the prices of those things standardized?

Lego masters has christmas episodes marked as episodes 1-4

Now that the new season is out, episodes 1 of the Christmas episodes is being "overwritten" by the "real" episode 1.

I've seen this weird behavioir in other shows too. Anyone deal woth this before? How do you make it show all the episodes independantly?

I've heard it's best to avoid using autoloads if you can. I'm curious what the reasoning is and if in my situation what would be better.

Here's the situation:

I'm making a management game (think kairosoft/motorsport mgr) and so there are a lot of interconnected systems. I have a system for managing characters, one for teams, one for inventory, one for building, etc.

Currently, I have all those "systems" in their own scripts in autoload because it seems like the easiest way to have access to them from anywhere.

Is there a problem with this?

The other option I thought of would be to use the game manager to essentially create a single instance of each of those systems and then broker al
