Had a really tough 1-2 years with my wife before she finally started HRT. Things are MUCH better now but I still get little “here we go again” mental pangs when she complains about me/work/a friend now. Logically I know it’s 99% just regular honest complaints now that we all have but can’t help but frame it as the same as that deep perimenopause time. I get worried and probably retreat to my “shut up and don’t make it worse” thing that sucks.

I guess my question is I’d like to hear how people managed to get back to normal after things got back to normal.

My wife will just say fuck the whole world (men aka me) every 3-6 weeks. It will usually coincide with something we “have to do” like a get together she planned. She just desperately tries pull me into to misery and 99% of the time it works because she is the woman I love.

All that said how do you stay happy/positive with this shit is pulling down?

Hey, look at us, huh?

Hard to believe another Dry January has passed us. I just wanted to give a huge shout out to everyone who kept it dry and also to the Damp January crew who did their best. There are still a few hours left (where I'm sitting at least) so don't pop the champagne quite yet!

I'm willing to call this one of the best years I've ever seen. The vibe in the subreddit was noticeably better than last year. People were helping and encouraging each other, the in-fighting was kept to a minimum, and people were generally excellent to each other.

I'll leave this thread pinned so we can add thoughts and musings about the month and we can all come back to

So happy to kick things off again this year. Its been a great resource and I'm super excited to be dry again.

A few points to note this year:

  1. There has always been a heated debate on if we should allow failure posts or "oops I messed up" posts. I know this can be a trigger for some people so I totally understand the concern. Here is my thought on it. If you're thinking of slipping and want support you're in the right place you should post away to the sub. If you slipped and drank please keep that out of the main sub and post in the oops thread. I'll also ask that people try and keep an eye on that thread to help people get back on track that need it. Damp January is better than Wet Janu

We're about to kick off Dry January 2026 and I wanted to check in with the community before we're in full swing.

  • I will do a weekly Monday Roundup and a Friday "get ready for the weekend" post.
    • Are these overkill? Do you like them? Anything you'd change?
    • I definitely don't want these to replacing posting in the main sub. I just like these as little check in spots for everyone.
  • I'll have a sticky thread for slip-ups. I like to be aware that people posting drinking posts in the main subreddit can be an issue for some people that are really trying to hold strong. I also don't want a hard and fast rule about not talking about slip-ups because it can be part of the journe
