This is what I'm thinking: Come winter and the final oil change, I want to circulate the new oil around the valvetrain etc but without starting the engine obviously. Can I somehow use the tip-over sensor for this purpose? Because I know if the engine was stopped due to the sensor tripping when the bike has been dropped you can crank it all day without it starting, unless you turn the ignition off & on again (ask me how I know).

This does however present a few questions:

  • Does the engine need to be running when the bike is tipped over?
  • Does the tip-over sensor itself need to do the shut-off or can I use the kill-switch?

I'll have a look at my bike, I just read that the tip-over sensor i

TL;DR: Try applying a little amount of pressure to the gear lever to "feel" it on your foot before pulling the clutch to shift up.

As you know riding is a never ending learning process (as with everything in life tbh). From having ridden a couple seasons now and having the basic knowledge of riding down, I can pay attention to improving my technique in different areas.

One such aspect is upshifting, I've spent this year trying to upshift properly. My bike is a SUZUKI V-Strom 650XT, so no quickshifter or anything.

I remember in the textbook I bought to study for the exam (written by Sveriges Trafikutbildares Riksförbund), when explaining upshifting it said something along the lines of "pre

Winter time is nearing once more and this year I've been thinking of storing my motorcycle in the rented garage spot I have. It's not a heated garage, just a gravel foundation and a door. It's a standalone structure and the spaces are separated by metal nets, so there's plenty of "ventilation" although there isn't any forced air or fans or anything of that kind.

The temperature here will fluctuate around 0 degrees a lot in the beginning and the water will freeze and ice will melt on and off for a while and in the middle of winter temperatures will reach perhaps -20 on average. This will go on for about 5 months.

Is a bike cover a bad thing to put on it? I'm thinking it might trap moisture

It's a collaboration album by The Black Dog and Black Sifichi. I've loved this album for years but no one Reddit seems to have mentioned it and that's tragic.

The album is a spoken word album mixed in with an atmospheric and varied electronic music landscape. Kind of ominous/mysterious/sinister/lighthearted sound, hard to explain. Delightful all in all.

I hadn't heard of Black Sifichi before this album but he's a New York spoken word artist with a deep voice and.. Unique style, very entertaining and relaxing to listen to.

The Black Dog of course are IDM and techno legends going back over 30 years and active to this day, now making ambient music mainly. A very strange departure from their

When using the "resurrected" key bindings, I can't toggle the minimap while holding ctrl to run without first releasing ctrl. In legacy key bindings mode (and in the original game) ctrl and tab worked independent of each other. I've created a ticket with Blizzard for this but thought perhaps I should've asked around the community first.. I might be the only person that still runs and walks though 🤷‍♀️

I have the OEM plastic side cases for my DL650XT and whenever I go to the shoppe or whatever else and just have the odd bits and bobs to pop in there I put them in the left case first. My reasoning is the muffler is mounted on the right side of the bike and weighs a lot, so doing this distributes the load evenly. However, I don't know if the bike in itself is balanced out somewhere else, that the SUZUKI engineers thought of this and perhaps mounted other things more biased towards the left already.

What do you think? Not a big deal obviously but I like optimizing things.

I like these simple-to-understand yet give-rise-to-interesting-implications ideas.

In my own words, the way I understood both of these:

  • The market for lemons: In a market where asymmetric information between buyers and sellers exist, the original example being the used cars market; The seller knows things about their vehicle they cannot easily prove to a seller, how it's been driven and taken care of. The buyer cannot see the difference between a good vehicle and a bad one (peach vs lemon respectively) and the price they're willing to pay for a vehicle is somewhere in between a peach and a lemon. Since the peach sellers won't accept a lower price than their vehicle is worth, they'll

I'm gonna struggle to explain this but here goes. I was listening to an album, I'm on vacation over at my mom's place so I use an old sound system from the 90s probably. Passive speakers driven by a SANSUI amplifier, from the 3.5 mm outlet on my old laptop. Nothing fancy. So anyway, when I got to the song "twelve miles high" on the album Las Vegas by Ink & Burger (/watch?v=xdhwzgh9TGY), the beat of the song was out of order. There's a distinct pace in the drum pattern but this time it was rearranged. I could try to write here what it sounded like (in a "badum-tish" fahsion) but I don't think you'd be any wiser for it, I'm not a musicologist. You'll just have to trust me that the beats were m

Sometimes I think about the birds, mostly magpies and jackdaws strolling about on the grass, why it is they live in this particular town. Is it because they were born here and become homesick if they leave or did they choose it for some other reason? Not that far from here is a much bigger city with better opportunities, I suppose they're just unaware of it. Some might not like the city life I suppose.

I don't know why you'd live here if you had a choice, I wouldn't if I didn't happen to work here... But humans I've spoken with here seem to prefer it here so I guess it's not out of the realm of possibilities that the birds might too.

I stumbled onto the specs of the APRILIA RS660, a parallel twin with very similar physical specs as the 650 I have, or the SV650 to make the comparison more fair. 645 vs 659 cc, both 81 mm bore. Not much difference there. Still, the RS puts out about 100 hp (as much as a FIAT 100HP!) and the SV puts out a mere 70-something. That's like a 25% increase. Obviously there's more to engines than just volume and that but I think it's quite remarkable. I wonder what decisions they made to make all that difference possible.
