Unfortunately, rats have decided to make my 2019 Accord 1.5T engine bay their home. I've tried essential oil sprays, but they only work so well, and I still occasionally find their droppings and food they bring on and around my engine.

I've purchased a pair of small battery powered ultrasonic noise rodent repellers (and they have flashing lights too). It's two of these.

Does anyone know a good place to zip tie them in place inside the engine bay? I'm trying to figure out they can be

  • (1) securely mounted
  • (2) effectively pointed to inside the engine area
  • (3) away from any part that may get hot when the engine is in use.

Thanks in advance!

Form 1116 troubles

I use HR Block software to file my taxes, and this is the first year that I have foreign tax paid about $300 (it's all from VTIAX in my taxable account).

I'm pretty confused about the questions related to Form 1116, especially the first one:

"""

Does the AMT simplified election apply?

It applies if either of these is true:

  • You made the simplified limitation election on a previous return.
  • This is the first time you've claimed AMT foreign tax credit, and you want to make the simplified limitation election on this return. (Disregard any return you filed before 1998).

[Yes/No]

"""

I really don't know what this means.

Does anyone know how I can figure out what the

I found a brand of elastic nylon straps that I like, but the smallest size that come in is 20mm, and my watch's lug width is 18mm. Since nylon is a flexible material and the difference is only 1mm for each side, can I just jam it in there anyway? Has anyone done this?

My 1099 form is for both dividends from various funds, and some interest from T Bills. The total there is around $600 more than it says in Vanguard online under Tax Forms and Information -> Year End Tax Activity. Does anyone know what might be causing the difference?

I have jury duty this week, and it isn't clear to me whether I'll be allowed to bring my phone into the court house building, and keep it with me at all times. It's at Somerville District Court.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Around a month ago, I noticed a musty smell coming out of my car's (10th generation Honda Accord) vents. I ignored it for a while, thinking that it would go away, but it didn't.

A little over a week ago, I took my car into the dealership for what would turn out to be a related issue. Apparently rodents had made nests inside my engine bay, and had chewed through a bunch of wires. This was also the source of the musty smell (presumably rodent pee, but I don't know for sure).

The dealership cleaned everything out as best as they could, and replaced all of the damanged wires. The smell coming from the vents is much less now, but is still there. They said that it would go away after "some time.

I've noticed that for a long time, my FICA taxes have been very slightly more than 6.20% for social security and 1.45% for Medicare. For example, in my latest pay check, it was 6.201% and 1.4503%.

I am calculating my FICA eligible income by taking my gross pay and subtracting health plan premiums and my HSA contribution.

Why would this happen? Hopefully I'm just missing something.
