Is it normal to idle for hours in your driveway of a residential neighborhood?

I have a neighbor who is a trucker who does this, so I can hear and feel it in my house the entire time. I respect the fact it may be necessary for his job, but at the same time, my job doesn’t affect him at all.

I’m looking to buy my first gun purely for home defense purposes. After a moderate amount of research, I’m currently planning to buy a Glock 17. I’ll keep it in a nightstand drawer, I won’t be carrying it outside of the house. I don’t have any children to worry about.

Does anyone have any better suggestions, or am I on the right track? Thank you!
